Dimitri's pov

"Well, well, well. What do we have here?" said the woman I hated and feared most. "Impressive."

"Laura" I nodded "Thanks for inviting us."

"Oh Dimitri, don't give me that bullshit you call politeness."

"Fine then. How is the business? Who's the rich man that has your claws on his neck?" Amanda asked. My friend always got protective over me and it was...amusing that someone as little as her would stand up for someone like me.

It amazes me how some highborn people like Laura think that they are better than everyone else. Just because you have money and like, a fucking empire, that doesn't mean you can step on the rest of society. This was the reason why I tried so hard to avoid Amanda's family and the world that surrounded her.

Although I'm crazy for the little Kitten that I have next to me, still her presence was never enough to make up for the worst behavior of some Ninns. And I have been pretty successful with this whole avoiding the evil twins, until Cass got us into this mess. The easy part? We didn't have to pretend much, just some kisses and the world would buy it.

"Easy Kitten." I whispered in her ear, Amanda tensed and her brown eyes threw daggers at me.

"You know what Amanda?" Laura hissed, "I loved my husband and I have no plans of getting married anytime soon. I don't need a man to make me look better...well unlike you here."

And there it was the fucking blow that we were expecting. Great, now I will have to deal with Amanda being pissed off for the rest of the night. I looked at our surroundings, looking for a way out of this argument, before things got even more heated.

"Am, your sister is waiting for us, why don't we..."

"Funny thing actually!" Amanda half screamed exasperated. "Isn't this the reason why we are here tonight? Even dead you are recurring to my dad and the uncle to look like a better person."

"Tonight is in honor of them you know?" Laura fired back while fixing her dress. She always looked posh without even trying, even at her 46 years old; She stole the show wherever she went. It was one of those women who never aged.
I tried again, this time ignoring her aunt.

"Am, Kitten calm down."

"I'm not going to calm down. Listen Laura, the only reason why we are here is to raise money for a fucking charity that my father never heard of. He wouldn't like this, all this circus that you put up, and for what? At the end of the night people don't come here for a good cause, they only come here to make themselves look good and feel better about having all they want in the world. This is just an excuse to show off."

"Then why are you here then? Listen to yourself! Preaching like a good girl. You are such a hypocrite, Amanda!"

"Okay, that's it for tonight ladies." I said with a polite smile. "Let's focus on playing the house game shall we? Some...eyes are watching."

Without waiting for another nasty comment from Laura, I locked my fingers with Amanda and directed her to the dancing floor. The lyrics of Thinking Out Loud echoed the room as we followed the rhythm. Ed Sheeran, just what I needed to calm her down a bit.

"Sorry..." She started without looking at me. "That was..."

"Wrong?"

"I was going to say stupid, but... Whatever."

"Hey, look at me Am. You look beautiful tonight, all right? Let's just have fun. Enjoy the view by the way..." I added trying to make her smile. The teasing technique has been working pretty well lately, so I decided to make it my shield.
