My heart was beating a million beats per second as I walk into school Wednesday morning. I want to turn around and run so badly but I can't.As I walk I stare at the floor. My eyes don't meet anyone else's. Maybe if I'm optimistic enough this day won't go so bad. Maybe I won't regret getting out of bed this morning.
I approach my locker, unlocking it and then pulling it open. I switch my books for classes that I have until the next time I come back to my locker. As soon as I shut my locker and turn to walk away my eyes widen at the sight before me.
No more than a few feet away from me was Ethan. He was accompanied by Aubrey just like I thought he would be. Except, in this scenario Aubrey looked almost close to tears. Her fists were shaking in front of her body. All of a sudden she starts pounding on Ethan's chest and calling him an asshole.
Well, she wasn't wrong.
I decide to go in a different direction, turning around once again. This time I let out a small squeal. My books fall out of my hands from shock.
"Woah, did I scare you?" Logan asks, his eyes giving me an odd look.
My eyes fall to the books on the ground and back up to his face.
"Um.." I begin, bending down to collect my stuff "Just a little."
"Sorry, I know I don't usually see you in the mornings. I just wanted to know if you actually came today."
"Yeah well," I stand up and clutch my books tight against my chest "I did."
I attempt to walk around him seeing as he wasn't going to move out of my way but his hand pulls me back by my shoulder.
"Where are you going?"
"First period, where else?" I ask sarcastically.
Logan raises his eyebrows and gives me a half-smirk.
"First period doesn't start for another ten minutes Gracie."
I step back and slowly start to walk away from him.
"I like to be early." I say swiftly when he begins to walk next to me.
"Of course you do." Logan chuckles as he shoves his hands in his pockets.
"Do you usually come this early?" I ask, curiosity getting the best of me.
"No." He answers. "Only came this early to see whether I really needed to stay here today."
My footsteps come to a still.
"Wha-What do you mean?" I mutter lowly.
Logan lightly shakes his head at me, the smirk still present on his lips, before averting his eyes.
"Nothing. Forget it... What do you have first period anyways?"
"English." I reply as I start walking again.
"Nice to know." He says.
A silence settles between us as we continue to walk. It doesn't bother me too much but I was aware he was following me around. Didn't he have something else to do? Didn't he have other people to talk to?
"Logan," I begin as I stop walking and face towards him "Why are you following me?"
A look of confusion crosses his features briefly, as if he didn't realize he was actually just following me around.
"Oh, I-" His voice cuts off and he just stands there looking at me.
I can't help the tiny smile that curves onto my lips as I watch him. His lips press together into a thin line as he tries to think up an excuse. He comes up short of one and instead just ignores my question.
