One Week Later

"Come on, Buck! Please?" I plead for the millionth time that day.

"No, you could get hurt Charlotte!" Bucky refused for the millionth time that day.

"I want to talk to Steve about this. He'll let me." I persist stubbornly.

"I'm telling you, he's going to tell you the same thing I told you." Bucky sighed but reluctantly lead me to where Steve was talking to the rest of the Howling Commandos.

"Hey, baby sis. What do you want?" Steve asks when he notices Bucky and I strolling over to him.

"I want to join the Howling Commandos." I tell him simply, crossing my arms over my chest as I stop in front of him. Around us, the rest of the group had stopped talking and stared intently at Steve and I. Bucky stood behind me and carefully watched Steve to see what he would say.

"I don't think that's a good idea, Charlotte." Steve shrugged slightly after a few minutes.

"I told you." Bucky muttered quietly behind me.

"Really, Steve? You too?" I snort. I was bound and determined to help my brother and my kind-of-boyfriend defeat this 'HYDRA' group.

"Yes, really. It would be way too dangerous for you, Charlotte. I don't want you to get hurt. And I'm sure Bucky feels the same way." Steve sighed before focusing his attention on whatever he was doing before I walked over to him.

"But Steve, do you not remember how I helped you rescue the 107th? I got everyone except Bucky out safe and sound.Don't you think I deserve some credit?" I exclaimed. I glared between Bucky and Steve, waiting for them to say something.

Steve and Bucky were having a facial expression conversation, it seemed. Steve would give Bucky a look, to which Bucky would respond with a different expression. They played off each other's expressions until Bucky huffed out in exasperation and ran his fingers through his hair.

"I still don't think it's a good idea." he reiterated.

"Charlotte, do you promise to be safe?" Steve turned away from Bucky to ask me.

"Of course, I promise!" I rushed to exclaim.

"No, you have to triple promise. This isn't a joke." Bucky crossed his arms over his chest and glared at me.

"Your boyfriend's right, princess. This is very dangerous work. You have to be absolutely sure you want to do this." Dum Dum added to the conversation, earning a glare from Bucky in the process. His arm snaked protectively around my waist, pulling me closer to him.

"Guys, I'm sure. I can handle this, no problem." I smile at all of them. I knew I could do this, and I wanted to. If Steve could do it, I could do it.

"Great. Welcome to the team little sis." Steve smiled widely before he reached towards me and ruffled my hair.

"Steve!" I groaned, dragging out the last syllable as I reached up to fix my hair. He stuck his tongue out at me, to which I returned, before he turned around to face the group again.

"As I was going to say before Charlotte interrupted, we have a new base to take down." he told us.

"Do I get to join in on this one?" I asked eagerly, leaning away from Bucky's arms and towards Steve.

"I suppose, but you're going to stay back and watch to see how it's done, alright?" Steve hesitantly agreed.

"Fine, fine. Just as long as I get to go." I smile, bouncing up and down on my feet. Steve rolled his eyes before he continued to debrief us on the excursion.

"We leave in a few days so take some time to relax and prepare." Steve concluded. Everyone either nodded their heads or mumbled an agreement before the group disassembled, everyone walking in their own direction.

"Let's go get some sleep, yeah?" Bucky whispered in my ear as he rested his head on my shoulder. He wrapped both of his arms around my waist and laced his hands together on my stomach.

"But that's all I've done the past few days." I whined, fake pouting.

"That may have been all you did, but I wasn't so lucky."

"Fine. But no promises that I'll get any sleep." I laugh as Bucky joins our hands together and leads us to his tent. We climbed under the single blanket laying over the cot and got comfortable. Bucky laid down with his head on my chest and both of his arms wrapped around my stomach, holding me to him tightly.

As he fell asleep, I ran my fingers through his hair rhythmically, lulling him to sleep. When I thought he was asleep, I looked down at him and smiled softly to myself.

"I love you Buck. I always have, and I always will." I whispered softly before placing a kiss to the top of his head.

"I love you too." came a quiet, mumbled response.

"You're still awake?" I giggle as a light blush tinges my cheeks. He wasn't supposed to hear that, but I guess it's a good thing he did.

"Kind of." he slightly shrugs before he snuggles deeper into my chest.

"Get some rest, Buck." I chuckle lightly before I resume running my fingers through his soft hair. He nods his head and soon, after running my fingers through his hair and humming different songs quietly, he's fast asleep. I follow him soon after.
