He drew patterns on my skin with his fingertips. I couldn't tell if the electricity I felt scattered across my chest was because of his touch, or because of his fingernails but I liked it. He drew shapes; flowers and stars and swirls, mesmerising us both with the way his fingers moved and the way my hair stood on end at the feeling of his fingers drifting across my skin.
It was 5am. The sun was weak and watered down, a watercolour light spreading through the room. A pastel wash over my dark, untidy bedroom.
We were in bed, his head pressed against my shoulder and our legs intertwined.
The room was quiet, but simultaneously alive with the sounds of the world drifting lazily through the window. Everything was slow, everything was safe.
'Are we going to get married?' he mumbled.
'Do you want to?' I asked.
'I think so.'
'Then maybe we will.'
He kept moving his hands, and I watched as his eyes opened and closed with sleep.
'We don't need to.' he whispered.
'I don't need a ring to show the world how much I love you.'
I smiled at him, looking closely at the content smile on his face. He was so calm, I could feel his slow heartbeat as he breathed deeply. In, and out. In, and out.
I put my hand over his, and he looked up at me, his eyes still half closed.
'Anything you want to do, we will do.' I said, looking straight into his crystal eyes.
'All I want is you.' he replied.
Blushing, I pulled his head closer to mine and kissed his cheek, before resting against him.
We fell asleep in bliss.
