'Fuck.'
Harry was slumped in his bed, blinds drawn and the lights off. The room smelt stale, and old, as if the door hadn't been opened in about a month. Harry looked up. His face was covered in stubble, his eyes submerged in dark circles, and he looked... terrible.
He shook his head when he saw us.
'Get out.'
'Harry, we need to talk.' Simon started.
'No, we don't.'
'You're killing yourself!' I exclaimed. I thought the sight of Harry would make me angry, furious that he was 'in love' with my boyfriend, but instead I just felt pity. He was destroying himself.
'I don't care.'
'Harry- Don't. You can't do this just because you fancy me!'
'That's not it, Simon!' he growled.
'I'm like this because- because of how horrible this makes me feel. I feel like a home wrecker and I've not even acted on my feelings, for fucks sake! I think about you, and all I can think about is Josh- how much I must be hurting him. It fucking sucks, man.'
He turned to look towards the window- but the blinds were still shut tightly.
'Harry.' Simon said, moving closer.
'I know this is hard. It's hard for us, too- you were in a traumatic accident, and now you have to hear that I don't actually feel the same. But the thing is, I don't think you love me. I think you heard my voice, and the word love, so many times that... That you think you have to love me. You don't.'
'Can you tell my brain that?' Harry replied, looking sadly at his hands.
'I don't know what we need to do, Harry, but I do know that you have to get out of bed.'
Harry sighed.
'I can't, Si.'
I clenched my fists slightly at the familiar name coming from his mouth.
'You can. You have to.
I might not feel how you do, but someone will. Cal does- you could always give that another shot. And if not, there's someone in the world who loves you as much as you will love them.'
'And what if there's not?' he sniffed.
'There has to be. I felt the same as you- I never thought I'd find the one- but I did. So, that's how I know there will be. Because there has to be.'
Harry groaned slightly, and stood up slowly from the bed. He moved to the window and drew back one of the blinds.
'You must be right.'
Simon smiled.
'Get out of bed, Harry. Find someone new. I know you can.'
I tensed up as Harry turned to hug Simon, but the hug only lasted a few seconds, and after, Simon came to stand by me.
'We'd best be going.' I said, looking at him and curling my fingers around his.
'It's late.'
Harry nodded, and smiled.
'I know you probably want to punch me, Josh. I'm sorry- and thank you for being so... understanding.' I forced a smile back, and, still holding Simon's hand, walked back to his car.
'I'm exhausted.' he mumbled as I sat in the driver's seat.
'Lets go home.'
