Go By The Book!

"All scripture . . . is profitable . . . " 2 Timothy 3:16

One of the best-selling books in all the world, and yet one of the most neglected, is the Bible. How many copies lie unused on the shelf collecting dust or are hidden in some drawer completely forgotten, while their owners fill themselves with other reading material that fails to satisfy their soul's deep need!

A woman who had bought a sweing machine went back to salesman with numerous complaints. He apologized to her because he had failed to give her a book of instructions when she purchased the machine. Later, when he phoned to inquire how the machine was working, she replied, "Fine! Instead of bungling along by myself, I started going by the book and everything had progressed smoothly ever since."

Many Christians seem to be having trouble with their lives for the same reason - they're not going by the Book!

If the Bible is God's message to man - and it is - a prudent man will heed its words, believe its promises, and direct his life by it.

The sailor who has in his possession chart and compass, and yet neglect to use them, is responsible for placing the lives of those on board his vessel in peril. The vessel may be lost by his neglect. We have a Guidebook, called the Word of God, and we are inexcusable if we miss the way to Heaven, for plain directions have been given us.

Blessed Bible, how I love it!

How it doth my bosom cheer!

What hath earth like this to covet?

O, what stores of wealth are here!

'Tis a chart that never faileth,

One which God to man has giv'n;

And tho' oft the storm assaileth,

It will guide us safe to heav'n.
