"Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel: and because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God, o Israel." Amos 4:12

Amos sounded a clarion call to repentance. He urged Israel to return to God and to prepare to meet Him. The call to preparation is applicable today. That meeting is inescapable and inevitable. Men may try to delay meeting God, but sooner or later they will need to face their Creator. Every being who has ever lived upon this planet must one day face his God, and the message of Amos to prepare for that meeting is present truth.

We should not think of this meeting as a fearful ordeal, but as a most joyous occasion. Those who from day to day have cultivated and enjoyed God's friendship will long to meet Him and see His blessed face.

We should live with a constant reference to the unseen now, and when that meeting does take place it will be but entering into a more intimate and lasting friendship.

If you could know that Jesus would appear

         Before another morn would give its light,

Oh,  would your heart be filled with joy? Or fear? -

         If you could know that He would come tonight!

How many things would you find time for then?

         Now crowded out or else forgotten quite-

The kindly deed, the hour of prayer again -

         Would aught be different, should He come tonight?

Soon that day will dawn, and make all time past;

         Then may we keep our lamps all trimmed and bright.

Oh, may we live each day as 'twere the last,

         And ready be - if Christ should come tonight!
