10 Years Ago- Korra's POV

"Katara" Master Mika spoke as she ran into the small healing hut, Sokka following behind, a look of worry on his face.

"What's wrong Mika? Oh my" Katara spoke as my eyes found the girl who moved to the Southern Water Tribe: Dakota.

Her body was pale and her eyes were shut tightly.

"I, I tried to get her to eat" Sokka spoke, his eyes pained "Please help her Katara, I can't lose another child".

Katara took Dakota in her arms and walked into the next room.

Master Mika instantly leaned into Sokka as tears fell down her face.

With a frown, I walked forward, and listened in to their conversation.

"We can't lose her Sokka, I barely handled June's death, what would we do if we lost her little baby?" Master Mika choked as Sokka held her in his arms. "Katara is the best healer in the world darling, she won't let anything happen" Sokka smiled before pressing a kiss to her cheek.

EW!

Suddenly, Sokka started to cough, causing Mika to look at Sokka with worry. "I'm fine" he spoke.

"Korra! Come here please!" Katara yelled, causing me to turn and leave the two.

I looked at Dakota, who laid in a special bath of water, one we never use.

"What's this?" I ask as I sit down next to the girl. "This is spirit water, Dakota has fallen terribly ill" Katara explained as the water glowed.

"Ooo, pretty" I smile, temptation to touch it washes through me.

But Dakota looked sad, maybe the glowing water would have to wait.

Reaching forward, I grasped her hand and gave it a firm squeeze. "I hope you feel better, Sokka and Master Mika are worried" I whispered.

Gasping, I stumbled back, my eyes wide. Dakota's skin shinned brightly, her eyes glowing a bright green. "Oh my spirits" Katara whispered as Dakota's skin slowly went back to normal.

Dakota's POV

A fireball flies past my head, making me whip around, anger on my face.

"Korra!" I warn as I lift up a packed ball of throw and bend it towards her, hitting her right in the leg.

"What! I'm the Avatar! Let me bend!" Korra snapped, as I throw another snowball at her.

"Can you please..not almost kill me?" I ask, my tone soft.

"Geez Kota, we've been friends for years, you can yell at me" Korra laughs as she wipes the snow from her coat.

"What if you go all Avatar State on me?" I ask, joining her in her walk back to the house to warm up.

Korra instantly scoffed "As if, hopefully Tenzin will teach me when he arrives" Korra sighs.

"Yeah, I'm not excited about his kids, especially his son, oh spirits" I groaned,  Korra insantly chuckling. Ever since I was little, Korra and I shared a deep relationship, we were best friends and hated being apart for long periods of time.

Katara said it was because when I was a child, Korra's premature connection to the spirit world blessed me with the power of the spirits. Thus healing me.

My fingers run along the amulet around my neck, inside is a small amount of spirit water. Katara told me that she got it as a girl from the North and used it to save Avatar Aang.

Besides that, Katara taught Korra and I to bend water, something I learned quickly.

"Hey Dakota, I need to go to my firebending test, I'll see you in an hour" Korra smiled before she ran off, leaving me to myself.

Sighing, I turned towards where my room was and started walking.

As I walked, I hummed a song that my grandmother taught me.

Falling so slow.
Like fragile tiny shells,
Drifting in the foam.

Little warrior boy,
Come marching home.
Brave warrior boy,
Comes marching home.

Even though she sang it in a sad tone, it never felt like that to me.

It reminded me of my Grandfather : Sokka and his father, for who I was named for; Hakoda.

My fingers danced along my other necklace, something Grandpa had given me as a girl. It looked like a betrothal necklace, and had a green and blue gems on the front. Maybe he thought of giving this to Grandma, but she still proudly wore her blue wedding ring.

"Hey Dakota!" a voice called behind me, making me turn.

My face relaxed at the sight, it was just Bato Jr, my boyfriend.

Even before I met Korra, Bato Jr or BJ as he likes to be called and I were best friends. Of course Grandpa was happy about this, apparently Bato and Hakoda were the best of friends.

He wrapped his arms around my waist and pressed a kiss to my lips.

Blushing, I moved my hands to the back of his head and ran my fingers through his hair.

"So, how was Korra?" he asked as he pulled away from me and we began walking.

"Good, she's going to pass her firebending test" I smile. Korra was a great bender, she had pretty much mastered Water and Earth, just leaving Fire and Air.

"What about your waterbending? Think you can finally take me?" he smirked, causing me to smile sweetly.

"Maybe" I respond, causing a cocky smirk to cover his face.

"Then let's put it to the test" he grins, pulling out his small dagger.
