Chapter 57

Days have passed and now it is very evident. Alex couldn't get out of bed anymore. She's always asleep or too unconscious because of pain. Most of the time she's awake she's tired and in pain.

I kissed her forehead before going out of bed. Downstairs the gang was all their.

"Morning, Zach." Lin smiled.

"Hey," I muttered before walking in the kitchen.

"How is she?" Chase asked.

"Same."

"It's near is it?"

Tears pricked my eyes. I placed my cup on the table and sat down.

"She's leaving me, Chase," I whispered.

Chase was startled by my action. He went down from the counter and made his way towards me.

"I don't know what to do, mate. I-I-I'm not ready..."

I felt his hand on my shoulder. "I love her too."

"What?"

I looked up at him and saw a resigned smile.

"I love Alex. She's the first girl I fell in love with. But she's in love with you and you love her too. She deserves you, not me," he said.

"You love her?"

He nodded his head.

"I'm sorry, bro. But I never tried anything," he said right away.

I laughed. "I know. I trust you. I'm sorry..."

He chuckled. "You don't have to be sorry. I'm beyond happy that she chose you. I think I'll hurt her."

"No, you won't. I saw how much you treated her."

"Mmm, but you treated her better. She was happier with you. When you two broke up I tried to see if I have a chance. But she's too hung up on you."

"Thank you for taking care of her, Chase."

"Thank you for loving and protecting her."

She was still asleep.

I brought her breakfast and placed it on the table beside our bed.

"Princess," I whispered.

She didn't move.

I placed my hand on her forehead and stroked her face. "Alex, wakey wakey."

I kissed her lips.

She stirred. Soon her eyes opened.

"Good morning." I smiled.

She smiled at me with her eyes still droopy.

"I'm still sleepy," she murmured.

"I know. But eat your breakfast first then sleep later," I said.

She nodded her. I placed my hand on her back and helped her in a sitting position.

I took her tray of soup and placed it on my lap as I sit on the side of the bed.

I'm used to this now. Feeding her breakfast every morning then she'll doze off again.

"I'm full," she said after 4 spoonfuls.

"You only ate few."

"I'm fu-"

That was my signal. I immediately took the bucket and placed it in front of her. She threw up. I brought my hand to her back and patted it. When she was done her eyes were closed.

I sighed and kissed her forehead. I placed her into a comfortable position and let her sleep.

"Hey," Lin said through the door. "Want me to watch her?"

I shook my head and sat on the couch.

She sighed and soon I heard the door closed.

I woke up when I felt cold hands on my hand.

I looked at my hand and saw it entwined with mine.

"Hey, princess."

Alex smiled at me.

"Do you need anything?" I asked.

She shook her head. "Zach."

"Yes?"

"I love you."

"I love you too," I said.

"Can you call all of them?" she asked.

The weight in my heart was there and it was so painful.

I nodded my head and walked out of the room.

They were all in the living room. The girls were talking and so was Chase and Justin, the other boys were sleeping except for Jake who was staring and drinking beer.

"Yo, guys. She wants you all in there," I announced.

They looked at me and nodded their head. Chase woke up those who are asleep.

I left them and went in the room.

"Hey, can you help me up?"

I raised my eyebrow but helped her out of bed. I had my arm wrapped around her waist for support as she walked in our closet.

"What are you looking for?" I asked.

"Would you get mad at me?" she asked.

It very impossible for me to get angry at her this time.

I shook my head.

"I'm looking for a dress," she said.

"Huh?"

"For my funeral."

When we were done all of them were in the room with Adrian. Alex smiled and asked me to set her in the bed. It was obvious that she was tired.

"Can you guys do me a favor and smile?" she said.

But we didn't.

"Guys, cheer up!"

"I think that's impossible, sis," Jake said.

The light smile on Alex's face wavered.

"Guys, when this is all done I'm okay. No more pain."

I shook my head.

She's right. Her pain will end when this is done.

Alex just talked but everything feels like in mute around me. I can see their lips moving. There were some tears but that's it. I can't hear anything.

Soon, it was just me and her.

"Hey," she snapped.

I blinked my eyes and walked towards her bed. I didn't talk. I just wrapped my arms around her and hugged her towards me.

"I love you, okay?" I said.

"I love you too. And I promise you I'll be here."

I nodded my head and let the tears fall from my eyes.

"You don't have to hang on anymore, princess."

I felt her nod her head.

"Thank you for everything, Zach. For showing me the meaning of life. For making my days worthwhile."

She pulled away from our hug and laid down on the bed. Her eyes eyes were half closed but her hand was tightly holding mine.

"Alex, I don't know what to do anymore," I whispered.

"Yes you do. You will move on. You'll leave happily. You're Zach Austin."

I laughed and kissed her hand.

"You're my main story," she whispered, "but I'm just a chapter in your life."

"No-"

"Shh, I'm right."

"You're my princess."

"I never told you this but you're my prince in this fucked up fairytale."

I chuckled. "Fairytales have happy endings."

"Tell me, do you think they all lived forever? No, at some point they died. But when they did they were happy because it was a happily ever after. Zach, I'm dying but I'll die happy. I have a happy ending. You gave me my happily ever after."
