Sophie

My eyes fluttered open and unsurprisingly, his face was the first thing I saw, he was sitting on the couch that faced my bed just staring at me.

I instinctively smiled. I still felt the tingle on my lips from our make out session last night.

"What are you doing over there?" I asked as I yawned and sat up.

His eyes twinkled with the reflection of the light.

"I wanted you to be comfortable." He spoke, his face void of emotion.

I furrowed my brows. Was he scared to sleep in the same bed as me?

"Did you even get any rest on that thing?" I asked.

"I don't sleep." He replied.

"Oh." I responded surprised at the new information. "Like ever?"

He gave me a small smile. "Never."

He stood up in all his beautiful glory and I couldn't help but feel self conscious about the way I looked. I fell asleep in the clothes I had on last night and I didn't even want to think about how my hair must have looked.

"I should get going. Carlisle and the others will probably be waiting to hear from me."

I couldn't help but feel disappointed. Why was he acting like nothing had happened between us yesterday. Did I imagine it all?

Before he could climb out my window, I called him back.

He turned around and raised a brow at me.

"Emmett, what are we?' I asked coming straight out with it.

He froze and looked away.
"I think that's for you to decide." He spoke.

"I don't wanna decide." I muttered childishly.

I saw him smirk, his eyes didn't meet mine however, they were focused on something outside.

I got out of bed and headed towards him where he stood by the window.

I placed myself in between the window and him. Placing my hands on his cheek, I made him look at me.

"You won't hurt me Emmett" I reassured him.

I remembered what he had said about not wanting to hurt me yesterday. The thought seemed to worry him so much and i wondered if he had hurt someone before.

His eyebrows creased and he studied my face intently.

"You're human, Sophie. When humans get involved with people like me, it never ends well." He spoke.

"Has it ever happened? Have you ever hurt a human?"

He hesitated before opening his mouth to respond. "I should go talk to Carlisle and the others. They're probably wondering where I am."

He tried to move past me but I grabbed his arm, I knew that me grabbing his arm didn't have any effect. The only reason he noticed was because I made contact with his skin.

"Don't run away from this. Lets talk about it."
He took in a deep breath. "I don't know if I'm ready to put you in such a dangerous position."

"Emmett it's not like we're having sex." I blurted out.

He couldn't help but crack a smile. I could tell that he was trying his best not to burst out laughing.

Blood rushed to my face as I blushed in embarrassment.

Did I just say that?

I cleared throat.

"Wh-What I meant..."

He was still smiling like a crazy person. I covered my face with my hands.

"Please stop doing that."

I felt his hands peel my fingers off my face and take them in his.

He still had a smile on his face, but at this point I was starting to enjoy it. I so rarely saw him smile and now that I had a great view of his dimples which only made him look hotter, I wanted to make his smile all the time.

"I get what you're saying but-"

"But nothing. We don't have to jump into anything. We'll take it slow, like normal people-" I shut up realising what I had just said. "Not that you're not normal..."

"What gave me away? The fangs or the ice cold skin?" He spoke sarcastically.

It was probably the first time I had heard him crack a joke. The smiling, the jokes.... it's like there was a whole other person behind this brooding serious guy and I liked that guy. I liked him a lot.

I smiled at him. "We could start with a date."

"A date?" It was like the word was foreign to him.

"Yes, it's something we do in the 21st century before engaging in a relationship."

He rolled his eyes. "I know what a date is."

"Great, then take me on one."

He still seemed sceptical about the whole ordeal.

"When are you free? Where would you want to go?" He asked robotically.

That wasn't romantic at all. I thought to myself.

"Now where's the fun in me doing all the work?" I teased.

"I guess I just don't know what you like." He spoke truthfully.

"That's also part of the whole dating process. Learning what the other likes." I explained.

"You know it's the 21st century. You could try taking me out on a date instead."

I giggled. He seemed surprised by my response as if he had not meant to be funny.

"Tell you what, you'll take me out this time and if all goes well, I'll take you out on a date next. Deal?"

He seemed amused. "Deal."

He moved away from where he was standing infront of me and I immediately felt his absence.

I hadn't realised how comfortable having him so close to me had become.

He headed towards the window but before he could exit, he looked at me.

"Don't go anywhere by yourself, James is still out there somewhere. Jasper and I managed to chase him off but it's only a matter of time until he comes back to town."

James. I had almost forgot about everything that had happened.

Emmett had distracted me and pulled my focus as usual. It was like nothing else mattered when I was with him. Like we were the only two people on the earth.

But that wasn't true. There was also a psychotic vampire out there trying to harm me and my family and my friends.

"Sophie, are you okay?" Emmett asked.

I found him looking at me in concern.

I didn't realise how tense I had gotten until I let my shoulders relax. "Yeah, I'm fine."

He looked worried and I could tell that he was considering not leaving me alone.

Not that I wouldn't like his protection but that was a selfish thought. He wasn't my personal bodyguard and he needed to be with his family too.

"Go, I'm fine, really." I told him.

Of course he still looked unconvinced but he nodded anyway.

"I'll be back before you know it."
