"Air's a lot chillier here than in Wisconsin." I shyly spoke to Shawn, rubbing my arms, as we rode in his car to explore Pickering's best spots. Shawn chuckled and nodded his head as he reached his left arm into the backseat of his car and pulled out a black hoodie. "Here," he said, tossing the garment onto my lap, "wouldn't want you to freeze to death on your first day."

The car made a right turn before finally parking in a snowed-out parking lot facing mounds of snow.

"Gee, the view of Canada is great." I sarcastically stated as I pulled on Shawn's hoodie over my head.

"I know It doesn't look like much, but trust me, it is a lot cooler than it seems." He gets out of the car and opens my door. Mumbling a simple "thanks," we slowly trudge our way through the 4 inch deep snow and find ourselves peering off the edge of something wonderfully frightening.

"I hate heights," I cowered my face from the snow below our feet. I couldn't really tell if we were standing somewhere tall or not. I just recognized that queasy feeling I get at the top of a Ferris wheel.

"Its alright, Reese. We aren't even that high up. Why are you so scared of some snow?"  Shawn wrapped his large arm around my fragile shoulder as I continued to cover my eyes.

"It isn't the snow. I just hate heights."

"At least open your eyes. Come on, I brought you out here to show you around. You'll never know what Pickering is like if you never look." Slowly, he placed himself behind me and removed my gloved hand from my face. Although hesitant,  I flutter my eyes open and part my lips at the beauty of the snow falling all around. I didn't even realize just how pretty snowflakes looked when falling.

"Beautiful, isn't it?" He smirked at me from the corner of his eye.

"Very. I've never seen snowflakes up this close before." Holding my palm out, a fragile snowflake floats it's way down and lands onto my hand. My eyes stay glued onto the icey wonder. About three more tiny fractals made their way into my palms as I continued to stare in awe. Snow began to cover my eyelashes but I tried to blink them away instead of wiping them away, not wanting to miss a single moment.

"Reese?" Shawn suddenly blurted. Luckily, I was fast enough to not drop the snowflakes.
"Yeah?" I responded. "I think we'll be great friends." He had a warm smile for such a cold place. Blushing, I followed my tall new friend back to his car.
