Louise~
My eyes trailed Shawn's movements as he continued to nervously button and unbutton his white dress shirt.

"Stop being so nervous," I said to Shawn while I picked at my fingers (a habit of mine), "it's just my parents." He looked over to me and silently rolled his eyes.

"You know your parents hate me. It's so awkward for me to be around them." He began to tap his right leg up and down. It was almost like he tried every single nervous habit a human could perform at once.

"They just assume you're snobby and no good. It's stupid, but I promise they're going to get over it."

"When? I always dread seeing your parents."
I laughed at his comment.

"I didn't mean it like I hate your parents or something. I just meant that it's awkward for me to try to talk to them when they have this concrete assumption about who I am."

"I get it; look, I talked to them about it, and asked them to have open minds tonight. They said they would, so stop stressing. They're really cool when you have a genuine conversation with them." Shawn seemed to have relief surge over him. He stayed chill until the doorbell rang. He went back into his nervous habits.

Standing up and walking toward him, I link my arm around his and lead us to the door. Shawn and I instantly greeted my parents as we were caught off guard by their warm hellos.

"It's so great to see you, Louise," my mom pulled away from my hug, "God, it's so crazy that you have your own place now. I remember when you were younger and you wouldn't do anything all day but eat and all I wanted was for you to leave this house. Ha! Now I can't believe you're gone. I miss having you arou--"

Luckily, and hilariously, my dad cut her off before she could practically read a novel out to me. "Shut up, Margaret [sorry, random name for your mom]. She doesn't want to hear every story you have to say."

"Why do you have to act like that right now? I'm trying to show love towards my daughter."

"She doesn't need to hear your yapping."

"Yapping? Oh, so that's all that I do now? Yap? You know, your father didn't act like this twenty years ago. He used to call me 'Baby.' Whatever happened to that?"
[Literally how my parents argue omg]

Shawn and I awkwardly stood at the door with my parents still in the doorway as they argued back and forth, like they always do, until Shawn interrupted. (To be honest, if Shawn hadn't done anything, I'd probably break out into laughter.)

"It's very nice to see you guys." Shawn put on a sweet smile for my parents. They stopped their bickering and focused their attentions on Shawn.

Surprisingly, my mom happily wrapped her arms around Shawn and gave him a kiss on the cheek. "You're getting so tall, Shawn." I made eye contact with him as we were both appalled at her loving behavior. She wasn't as loving towards him as she was towards me, but it was a step forward in the right direction.

"Shawn." My dad blankly said holding out his hand for Shawn to take. "Sir." Shawn firmly shook his hand.

"I'll take your bags and put them in the guest room. Louise can take you guys to the dining room." Shawn spoke up. After all of the nervousness that Shawn felt, he seemed to have been dealing with it all very well.

"It's alright, Gerald can get it." My mom sent a mischievous glare at my dad as he groaned.
"Oh, it's alright, I don't mind." Shawn latched his hands around the handles of the two bags they packed for their one-week stay with us.

"Yeah, Margaret, he doesn't mind. Thank you." From there, Shawn gladly brought the two bags down the hall to the guest room, I led my parents into the dining room, and my parents continued to bicker. (They always playfully bickered.)

Ok I know that was short but hey it was cute and hopefully made you chuckle 💕
