Monday morning when I got on the bus, I looked out the window looking for him. Yes, Xavier. When I'd thought he would miss the bus, he walked towards my window and waved. I felt somewhat relieved that he made it on time. I even slapped myself after he walked towards the doors of the bus. He ended up sitting next to me. The bus began to move and like every other day, there was traffic. I decided to look at my phone and found a text message from Gabe.

Gabe: I need to talk to you Eb

Me: What is it?

Gabe: When we get to school. Mr. Jock is there.

I looked to my left just to see Xavier, rocking his head to the music he was listening to. I simply smiled.

Me: Gabe, what's wrong?

Gabe: Like I said, when we get to school!

I didn't bother to text back. I put my music on shuffle and looked out the window. It was a sunny day and it was good thing I decided to wear a loose shirt with a black tank top underneath. Xavier grabbed one of my earphones and put it in his ear.

"I like this song." He said.

"You like ?" I asked.

"I like Even Robots Needs Blankets."

By the time we reached school, Xavier turned towards me with hopeful eyes. I felt that he was going to mention the letter. It was cute, but I wasn't sure if I liked the part where he asked me if I wanted to go to Panda Express...I wasn't really getting the hints. I didn’t want it to get any further than this. I just felt that he was already overwhelming me with this strange kindness.

"After school right?" he asked. I nodded. I took the risk of it. I was going to give him a chance either way. Everyone deserve a chance right?. Well some people, not like Kaka face Kaya.

We walked away from each other as I headed towards my locker when Gabe appeared out of nowhere and pulled me to the side. He looked around if anyone was eavesdropping before he started to talk.

"We need to talk."

"What is it this time? Josh was annoying you again?" I asked.

"No Ebony. This is about Xavier." I rolled my eyes. I knew that Gabe never liked Xavier but by the tone of his voice, I knew it was something very important.

"What?"

"You clearly don't know him well enough."

"Xavier..."

"He got in a fight with Ray...again..."

"Again? What do you mean by again? Wait...why do I care?" I muttered. Gabe pushed me towards the wall when I tried walking away and pushed his face close to mine.

"Don't get yourself into trouble, don't get yourself hurt. He's a violent guy, alright?"

"He's not like that." I pushed Gabe away from me and walked towards class.

"Ebony, that's how blind you are. You don't know as much as I do because all you've done in school is lock yourself in the library. You don't know how it is out there, you're slowly entering their world."

"Gabe, cut the crap, man. Nothing is going to happen."

"Eb, I'm warning you. I don't like how you've been spending too much time with him."
