My parents looked as if they were going to go to work. They were just going to a graduation God. They had their video cameras, camera, phones, journals even some weird looking tablets. The only thing they need was their crew. They made me bring my camera 'just in case' they ran out of memory.
My father managed to get a seat in the bleachers just in the middle exactly. I admit it was a great view of the whole Senior class and of course my brother. Ray's family sat next to us and for an exception Kaya and I shared nachos and half of a hot dog. It was a sunny day, many volunteers from the Sophmore class went around selling portable fans or water bottles. Before we left the house, my parents took tons of pictures of Erix and they forced me in to the pictures. Just some of them. To tell you theres a picture of me from 5:30 am half dead in my PJS yelling at my brother to get up.
"Oh look its Ray." Kaya pointed out. Her parents got up and started to take pictures as Ray went up with the Seniors in the Varsity team. "And Erix." My parents went all crazy, taking pictures of Erix and Ray even of some people who Erix went to Preschool with.
"I'm hoping Erix falls on his face." I told Kaya.
"I'm hoping Ray falls off the stage."
"Kaya Rayna Mullins, respect your brother." Her mother spat. Kaya rolled her eyes.
"You guys are acting as if he's moving out. That fat ass ain’t going nowhere." Kaya muttered.
"It seemed just yesterday they were playing hide and seek at the park." Mr. Mullins said.
"Now, now, we got to be strong for our boys." My father said. 'Our Boys'...love does exist between father's and their first born. Can love exist for the daughters? I think not.
Finally, the two hour long ceremony ended. We all went down to the field and started to take pictures. I stood fairly away from everyone else. I just watched everyone greet their loved ones, congratulating them.
I stood grabbing on to my small bag near the fence ready to leave. I was also tempted to text Xavier to come pick me up. Just when I was going to call Xavier, out in the field Erix yelled out my name. His voice sounded hurt, anguish, his eyes were red and his hand were waving for me to come. I stood there blanking out. I had forgotten Josh had come with us, he came to me and dragged me back to the field.
Erix had embraced me with a tight hug. I don't know what got to me but small tears rolled down my cheeks. Everything happened too quickly, bunch of flashes came in our direction. I had to hold Erix heavy body for a long time because he wouldn't stop crying and he put all of his weight on me. Tragic.
"I love you so much." he said.
"Stop." I said.
"Oh...my god... I wish I wasn't a fool." he said.
"Come come! all the cousins! even though we're missing Lou, Dana, Burty, Oto, Yadra, Lage, Sander, Clyde-" my mother said.
"Now, don't say everyone. Just them. At the reunion we'll take a group picture." my father indicated Josh and his twin siblings to get in the picture with Erix and me. After Ray and Kaya came in and took another.
I didn't care if we were taking pictures because afterward, Josh took me to Little Jo's and bought me a large pizza. It was good pizza. I went through the last day of school walking around with Gabe, Angie and Josh. Then my weekend came. Erix's party.
I woke up that Saturday with Angie and Gabe on my bed with a small chocolate cake and one candle singing to me.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!" They yelled out
"O-M-G!" I nearly fell off of my bed.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR EBONYY! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!" I blew out the candle and went to brush my teeth. When I came back we cut the cake and started to watch Pokemon. We barely were on season two episode eight. It's a good show though.
