School became less than a hustle. Everyone went back minding their own business and on the bright side, I can finally show no fears. Who cares anyways. I remember clearly that the following Monday Erix dropped me off at the bus stop and everyone was well enough surprised. Erix looked at me and patted my shoulder.
"You go and show your inner star." He said.
"It feels weird." I told him.
"I know. Love ya." I got out of the car and walked up to my little spot by the fence waiting upon Angie and Gabe. Gabe's mom's car came and made a stop in front of me.
"Shut up Gabe!" His little sister Gabby said. Angie came out cracking up like crazy.
"Goodbye Angie. Oh hello Ebony dear!" His mother waved at me. Gabe got out shortly kissing his mother goodbye.
"Remember to give Gabby what she deserves." Gabe said.
"What does Gabby deserve?" I asked.
"A whooping." He laughed. "Nah, she has to try eating eggplant. She lost the bet."
We looked around and everyone slowly turned their heads. I had this authority feeling inside of me. I couldn't think of all the bad possible things that could happen today. I got on the bus and made my way to that old school. Noter Burn.
The skies I remember, were clear blue and the sun was out. I heard birds which I found that winter had gone and spring was on its way. I walked down the same halls I have for the last four years and all I was able to do was just to smile. I couldn't cry, I couldn't feel no anger just this funny feeling inside of me that I just wanted to scream and laugh. Was this what happiness felt like?
I was getting my books out when I felt Xavier hug me from behind. I closed the door and turned around looking at him. He slowly let a kiss slide like it was just a normal thing. I also heard a couple of girls just shriek and complain. I guess they did not get the memo.
"I missed you." He said.
"I saw you yesterday." I said slowly pushing him away and heading to class. Pam made a turn on the corner and she stopped in front of us. Her eyes widened and her books fell down to the ground.
"Woah! So it's true." She said. "I must say, I'm quite surprised."
"Why?" Xavier asked. Pam raised an eyebrow and shoved her history book at him.
"I need to study. Meet me at the Ag area at lunch then. I don't want to fail my test."
"So I guess I get my job back?"
"Not all is forgiven Xavier Philips." Pam pointed at him. I helped her pick up her books and she stormed out.
We walked to class and I couldn't stop but to smile at Josh who seemed to be annoyed by Kaya. Who isn't annoyed by her? Well, I give it to him. He likes that attention. Kaya was holding his hand and she seemed to be complaining about something. Xavier and I stayed nearby to see what was going on.
"I don't want to." Josh said.
"Oh come on! I know you want to."
"Me? and Ray? no, no, no miss."
"Ray likes you unlike Erix."
"That's because Erix is his lover and I'm nothing."
"You should meet the in law, Josh." I said. He turned bright red turning his face away from mine.
"No." And that was end of the conversation.
School went by fast, before I knew it, it was already Prom, then Grad night. I honestly did not want to go to prom. I just didn't like the thought of wasting about forty bucks just to go to a dance and that's it. Angie, Holly, Veronica, and Kaya convinced me otherwise. Plus, Xavier made a big effort to ask me to go. And It was very much public.
