Chapter 8

Hearing the slight sound of birds chirping, I stretched myself out and gave a big yawn. Standing up to shake my coat and woke Yukio up, once he was done and out of the room, I did the same to Rin, only by grabbing his tail and yanking it lightly, but tight.

Rin opened the dorm door for me to go outside and do my business, while he went into the kitchen. I was about to come back inside, when I heard a commotion going on upstairs and decided to check it out, only to smell a familiar scent, walking in through the doors, an irk mark placed itself on my head. Walking into the kitchen I find Mephisto, chopping up some unruly objects and produce.

"What are you doing here Mephisto? Where's Ukoback?"

"In due time" My ear twitched to some noise behind me to see Rin and Yukio.

"Gentlemen, morning" -Mephisto

"MEPHISTO!" -Rin

"Uh, all this time, it was you, you're the one who's been cooking our meals for us since we moved in?!" -Yukio

"I've been doing no such thing, I'm just a temporary replacement" -Mephisto

"A replacement?" came Rin and Yukio

"Temporary, the one who's in charge of your cooking is Ukoback" -Mephisto

"Ukoback?" they both questioned

"I know that name, I think he's a stove spirit. He sneaks into the kitchen when humans are sleeping and he makes the food taste better" -Yukio

"Spoken like a true instructor, good answer. Up to now he's been loyally carrying out his duties here, as my familiar of course. Yesterday though the two of you had apparently trespassed on his territory, the kitchen. Now he's in a foul mood and has boycotted his job" -Mephisto

-Damn you two, I knew it wasn't a good idea-

Following them to the table, Mephisto put down two bowls for Rin and Yukio, then he laid one down for me. But it didn't look right. It was red, bubbling and looked hotter than the hottest chili pepper.

"I think I understand the gravity of this situation. By the way what is this?" -Yukio

"My specialty, little demon flavoured oatmeal. Please help yourselves" -Mephisto

-Why do I get the feeling it actually does have a little demon? What kind of oatmeal looks like this?! -

I gave a sniff to it and found it didn't burn my nose. In fact, I couldn't smell anything from it at all, I wonder why that is? It left me real confused, but my gut said don't be fooled, including my brain.

"Go on, don't be shy" I could see the faces Rin and Yukio were expressing and I don't blame them, anyone would react the same uneasy way.

"Here goes, AAAAHHHHH!" -Rin

-He instantly died from eating that?!-

"Rin no! Are you okay?" -Yukio

"I hear grandma calling me" -Rin

-Shit! Save him Yuki! -

"Grandma?! We never met our grandma! Whoever she is, don't follow her into the light!" -Yukio

-Is that even gonna help?!-

"A familiar's misconduct is the responsibility of its master. Until Ukoback's mood improves, I will take charge of this kitchen and prepare all your meals personally" -Mephisto

"What if his mood doesn't improve?" -Yukio

"Hmph, then I will become your personal cook for the duration of your time here" -Mephisto
