Quiet Kid Can Fight

The Fire

I woke up next morning with mist in the room. That morning Hayden and I began to realize this house wasn't overly safe. So that morning we skipped school and packed up our bags then moved all of the bags to the small barn behind the house.  As soon as the last bag was moved to the barn Alexa, Hayden and I began to set up. Then I went to get water from well but then I smelled smoke. I turned to the old house and it was on fire.

"FIRE!" I yelled.

Hayden and Alexa ran out of the barn. 

"We need to get out of here, we probably started it," Hayden said.

"Let's grab our stuff," Suggested Alexa. 

We dashed into the barn and grabbed all of the bags then ran in the woods as the cops and the firefighters arrived. 

"Let's try going home maybe the police aren't searching anymore" I suggested. 

"Sure," Hayden agreed.

As we walked back to our house the police car swarmed around our house. One of our neighbors was outside.

"What happened?" I asked.

"A whole family has gone missing," my neighbor said obviously not knowing who I was.

"Thanks," I replied.

"Let's get out if here," Hayden said.

We walked to the church next to the now burned down house. 

There read a sign read: Free Food come in today and get free food.

 We all ran into the building. 

"Hello," a man said as we were walking in. 

"Hi," I said shyly.

Then I realized the bag I was carrying had my weapons in it.Oops.

"Why do you children have these bags with you?" The man asked.

"We're homeless," I replied.

"You're well dressed for being homeless," The man suspiciously.

"We've got kicked out of our home a few days ago," I replied.

"Well you came to the right place," He said happily.

"Yay! I'm really hungry," Alexa said.

"You all siblings?" he asked.

"Yes," I lied. Well, it's a half lie. 

Hayden was just here for a mission but he was starting to feel like family. Dang, what's wrong with me? I thought to myself. I've known him for like a week? I need to calm down a lot.

"Well you can sit here," The man said pointing to some chairs.

We sat down and we put our bags (a total of three bags) on the ground. 

"What are we going to do?" Alexa asked.

"Stay in school," Hayden replied.

"But Hayden we need food!" Alexa exclaimed.

"And we will get food at school" Hayden replied calmly.

"But I hate stealing food," Alexa complained.

"We have to," Hayden said strictly. 

"I could get a job and make money," She replied.

"No, you're too young to get a job you need to stay in school," I replied.

"But," Alexa replied.

"It's not a choice!" I said strictly. 

"There's something your hiding," Alexa said suspiciously.

I sighed. "It's not safe for you not to be at school," I said.

"Why?" She asked.

"You know the people who broke into the house?" I asked.

"Yeah," she replied.

"There highly trained ninjas that were trying to kidnap us," I replied.

"WHAT?" Alexa yelled.

"SHH!" Hayden said.

We looked around no one was listening.But then the same man walked back in.

"Are you kids the missing family there looking for?" He asked. 

"No," Hayden lied.

"Yes you are aren't you?" He asked.

"No!" The three of us yelled.

"Fine, I'm going to hope you're not lying," he replied.

"We're not sir and definitely not here would I lie," I said.

He smirked. "I'll go get you three some food," He said then walked away.

We burst out laughing when he left the room.

"Oh no I would never lie," Alexa said in a mocking high pitched voice.

We laughed so hard tears were coming out of my eyes.

The man came back out with some soup.

"Thank you," we said as we were handed the soup.

We took our time eating the soup. When we left the place laughing and joking.

"Where are we going to sleep?" I asked.

"In a tree," Hayden said.

"Really?" I asked.

"Actually yes that tree right there," He said pointing to a large tree.

We went up the tree laid back against it and fell asleep.
