Chapter 5

"Good morning, Ma'am. Here's your schedule for the day." Bati agad sa akin ni Kristine nang makarating ako sa aking opisina.

I laid down my things on the table before turning my computer on.

"Good morning, Kristine. Can you read it for me na lang? Kailangan ko pa kasing mag-email ng file kina Mr. and Mrs. Sudalga for our new contract. Alam mo na, they re-scheduled their booking sa Clandestine kaya automatic void na agad iyong una." Naiiling ko pang paliwanag sa kaniya.

I couldn't process the new contract last night because of some things, and those things are everything related to my night job.

I got too caught up on my personal investigation that the contract slipped my mind.

I started typing our new contract on my computer while listening to Kristine at the same time.

Milagro nga't maayos pa akong nakakapag-type dito. Na hindi ko nasusulat ang mga sinasabi ni Kristine sa kontratang ginagawa ko.

"And lastly, ma'am, is a late dinner meeting with Mr. Sinclair this 9 in the evening." She said in a dismissive tone.

Late dinner meeting? Bakit kailangang gano'ng oras pa talaga kami magkikita? I can't stay that late out here. Kailangan ko pang makipag-meet kay Carver at Castiel mamaya for the updates and for the plan of their "supposed meeting."

I halted from typing for a moment and look at Kristine.

"May iba pa ba siyang sinabi when he said, he'll meet me later at 9 in the evening?" taas-kilay kong tanong sa kaniya. I understand that he's a Surgeon and he's busy. But I am too, I mean, I am also busy with my other occupation as well.

"Ang sabi niya po ma'am sa akin ay ganoong oras pa lamang po siya makakalabas ng ospital sa araw na 'to. Meron po kasi siyang booked surgeries for the entire morning and afternoon. Tapos may lecture din daw po siya from 6 to 8:30 mamayang gabi sa isang private medical institution." Paliwanag niya sa akin.

I bit my lower lip upon hearing his explanation. I went silent for a moment, trying to think of an alternative solution. Carver and Castiel's meeting with the Berlusconis will be done tomorrow night. Kaya dapat mapag-usapan na namin ang plano mamayang gabi.

"Is it possible for us to re-sched our meeting? Alam mo naman ang patakaran ko Kristine, I can't stay that late."

My secretary slash manager in Clandestine knows that I don't stay out late even if it's work-related. I explained it to her to decline appointments that would violate my personal rule, pero ang buong akala niya ay health conscious lamang ako at pinaphalagahan ko ang aking kalusugan. After all, 9 can also be indeed considered as late.

"I tried explaining that to him already po Miss Arcaza, but he said he'll be attending a business conference tomorrow sa Mindanao. So he was really hoping you could meet him tonight."

Napabuntong hininga naman ako nang sabihin iyon ni Kristine sa akin. He's one busy man, alright. Fine.

I'll just have to text Carver to meet me earlier than the usual time.

Never in my entire life have I ever thought I'd choose the trivial matters over the Mafia.

"Fine. But this will be the first and last time. Sa susunod ay hindi na ako mapipilit. Am I understood, Kristine?" I clarified myself to her na sinuklian niya naman ng isang tango.

She left after I said my final decision and I continued writing the contract. When I was done, ay agad ko na naman itong ipinadala sa email ng aking kliyente.

I went out of my office and directly went for the Kitchen. It's time for my usual rounds, I'd check if how they're doing, if they're still following the safety protocols in making the food.
