Simon and Alec are paired for a mission together and at first Simon annoys Alec with his old mundane habits. Yet a little into the mission and they become amusing.
They get to talking about the down world and Alec can ask questions that he wouldn't ask Magnus as he doesn't want to pressure him.
Simon learns more about Shadowhunters and there newer rules.
Simon promises to keep Alec updated on anything that may involve Magnus being in danger as long as he watches Star Wars.
So when the two are at the Institute and neither make any comments about eachother the others are confused. Then when Simon makes a Star Wars reference which only Clary laughs at Alec quietly does too and everyone has no idea what is happening.
