Stunned, I stared at the people who still managed to crowd my room despite the small number. I mean, it wasn't exactly a mass of people.

"Hey, Sky," Alexi practically jumped over to me breathlessly, and held out a piece of paper to me. "You need to verify some of these names, and perhaps add a few of your own," I frowned at the list of names. It looked to be a list of all the people we had contacted for help; most were here right now.

Lexi squeezed my shoulder. "Remember they need to be people you can trust, but they can't be dead weights—we need a good team if this is going to work." She advised me before leaving me alone with the list.

I peered at the names, but I couldn't concentrate with all the noise, so I backed into Jameson's room and shut the door. Sighing, I laid the piece of paper down on Jameson's desk, tapping around the desk to find a pen. Then I knocked over a pot—a pot of pens. I love irony.

I sighed, putting a palm to my forehead, standing the pot back up and collecting up the pens. The door creaked open but I chose to ignore it as I picked pens from a nook between a pile of research and the wall.

"Need some counsel?" Having completely forgotten about the door opening, I jumped out of my skin when the voice spoke.

I looked up to see Jace holding out three pens with a warm smile on his face.

"Thank you." I said as I exhaled, taking the pens from his hand, keeping one and putting the rest back in the pot.

"Actually, yes," I said, responding to his earlier comment. "Take a seat, this could be quite the session."

"I'm preparing myself for anything." He told me, pulling up the desk chair and sitting on it.

Leaning over the table, I read the names on the list.

Shaking my head, I said. "It's just so overwhelming."

"Why?" He asked.

I shot him an annoyed look. "Have you seen what's on the other side of this wall?"

Jace nearly smiled. "Okay," he said, leaning back in the chair. "But what's overwhelming about it?"

I closed my eyes and turned back around, returning to my original position. "It's too many people."

"And you think that the plan could fail because of it?" Jace asked.

I stifled a laugh—of which held no humour. "The people aren't the liability. They're the collateral damage."

Jace hummed. And I knew he finally understood it. "You're afraid to risk their lives."

I opened my eyes and read through the list. There was a clear separation between who Jameson chose, who Alexi chose, and who Alexi wrote down for my benefit.

"I mean, just reading this...there are friends—close friends—and innocents...and–" Jace startled me by placing his palms on my shoulders and squeezing them reassuringly.
