Chapter Four

Recap:

"Mom, he's the one who has tour here's my since freshman year. He has made my life awful. He has pushed me into lockers, embarrassed me, spilled my lunch everywhere and know I have to work with him?"

"Well just remember, I want to meet him before you start dating."

"Mom, I have never had a boyfriend and I'm not going to start now."

"Sure, Whatever you say. But moms can tell."

When I finally was able to drag my lazy behind out of bed in the morning I was greeted not so nicely. I had just barely able to push myself out of bed and onto the black fuzzy rug on the floor when I was rudely interrupter by my bestest friend in the whole wide world. "Good morning to you," Scott whispered in my ear. "Am I interrupting anything?"

I rolled my eyes at his idiocy and pulled myself off the really comfortable rug. "Just my love of the rising sun and the beginning of a glorious school day." The sarcasm laced my words like a doily. He scratched the back of his head awkwardly. He was acting strangely. Hmmmm.

"Hey, A?"

"Ya."

"After school today, are you buisy?" His voice cracked in the middle of his sentence. Another odd occurrence.

"No, why?"

"I ended to talk about something with you." He turned and walked out the door without so much as a goodby.

Well then. I thought to myself.

School passes as slowly as ever. Landyn and I managed to get some work done on our projects without hurting one another. We both have the written part of the project done. The PowerPoint part, we hadn't started, still needed to be planned and worked on.

I walked home, alone, thinking about the possible things Scott would want to talk about. It was eerily quiet with only the faint sounds of a dog barking or a car driving by. I unlocked the front door with the key on my lanyard that was always in my pocket.

I fixed snacks from in the kitchen. I has gotten a text a few minutes before that Scott was coming over. He would arrive any minute.

Scott's home life isn't the best. He had been beaten as a child for dumb things. His mom was an alcoholic and his dad had to work extra hours to support her addiction. His mom left after Scott's sixth birthday. Scott and I both had one missing parent, that's one reason we got along so well.

The doorbell rang. I don't know why he bothers with the doorbell considering he basically lives here. I opened the door for him. "You realize my mom's not home and you never have to knock anyway."

He just shrugged. He grabbed my wrist and pulled me into my room. He shut the door which was strange because no one else was home.

"Angela, I've wanted to tell you this for a long time and I don't know if you will hate me or not. I hope you don't but you never know, I mean..."

"Scott, get on with it I could never hate you." He gave me a weak smile and I could see the tears build in his eyes.

"Well, I'm have a boyfriend." He murmmered. I could barely hear him. The pieces of the puzzle immediately fell into place. He hadn't called or texted at all when he was camp. He also acted reserved, more so than usual, when he came back to school yesterday.

"No matter what, I will always be there for you. You didn't have to tell me, I would have figured it out." I grinned. " When can I meet him?" He just laughed. All the worry and sorrow that had been on his face this morning was know gone. I don't understand why he was so worked up about me knowing he was seeing someone. He should know that no matter what, I would be supporting and I knew it would happen eventually.

"So what's he like?" I didn't want to make him uncomfortable but I needed to know.

"As you probably know, we met at camp. The first time we met he actually spilled food on me. I think it was a dare from his friend because his acting is terrible. His name is Evan, he is the artsy type. He has sketchbooks full of random drawings, but they are amazing."

"Since you met at camp, where does he live?" I questioned. His face suddenly dropped.

"That's the thing," he stated softly. "he lives in New York." The sadness never left his eyes as we sat in awkward silence for a minute.

"Hey, are you hungry?" He nodded his head furiously and began to go out the door to the living room. As I gathered the items that needed to go downstairs, I could hear Scott rummaging through the cupboards in the kitchen already looking for something to eat.

"Hey A, where is the noodles?" Leave it to Scott to overlook the one most common food item in our household. Any kind of noodle or pasta was common for my mom because it only took minutes and could be topped so many different ways.

After a meal of noodles with cheese, Scott and I found ourselves planted on the couch still munching on potato chips. I swear that boy is bottomless. He could literally eat a cow and still want desert.

I glanced at the clock. It was already about seven. Soon Mom walked through the door looking overwhelmed and overworked. "Well hello Scott. Nice to see you again."

She disappeared into her bedroom probably not to be seen again until tomorrow night. She must have eaten at the hospital even though she despised the food.

"Well I better get home. My dad will be worried." He let himself out and slowly began to walk home.
