Pretty.Odd. songs are basically all around summer. Maybe for Ryan, Brendon, Jon, and Spencer all reamber that summer. Maybe that summer was about Brendon confessing his love for Ryan and Spencer and Jon we're happy for them but Pretty.Odd. talks about that summer. We will probably never find out what exactly happened in that summer.
Because, I'm sorry, look at Northern Downpour. The main, kinda, lyrics are:

Well, sugarcane grows in the summer. Look at When The Day Met The Night:

It talks about summer.
Then look at the, kinda close, end of summer of 2009. Ryan and Jon left in the summer.
I don't know what I'm trying to say, but maybe for them they have that one summer that changed everything. Like 2009, in the summer everything changed for them.
It just got my attention how Northern Downpour and When The Day Met The Night and basically Pretty.Odd. is all around summer and then, in summer, Ryan and Jon left.
