'Thanatos is the definition of enigmatic...'

There were five letters in total.

The last rays of the sun were floating down the white duvet of the large bed as I reread them all for the tenth time that afternoon. My eyes kept darting to the window. The sun was already setting and they hadn't arrived yet...

If they even were arriving today.

Yesterday, when Apollo had handed me the letters and the good news of Thanatos and his party's success, I was brimming with excitement! Trita and Sonya have been all smiles since the moment I told them and running around making sure everything was set for the men's return.

As the day passed, our excitement got a little less with each absent hour. There was a great chance we'd probably only see them tomorrow-or maybe the day after. Gods, I couldn't even wait another minute, never mind two more days...

Trita and Sonya were just as nervous and thrilled as I was. Sonya couldn't stop brushing her hair, making sure every tendril was perfectly smooth and tucked away neatly in her high bun. Trita, on the other hand, was vigorously filling down her nails. Whenever Trita got nervous about something, the first thing she picked up was her nail-file. The poor girl wasn't going to have any nails left if Hypnos didn't show up soon.

Trimorphe was lazily sleeping in the dying sunlight; her claws stretched out and her mouth hanging slightly open as she dozed. She was much better today after yesterday's clash with the Minotaur from the abandoned fortress. All her wounds had healed and I'd given her a nice, long and hot bubble-bath. It took me nearly the whole night to get her out of it, but it was worth it after seeing her so content and happy again.

I sighed as I flipped open the first letter- again. The anticipation was killing me.

If Thanatos doesn't show up soon, I might just lose my mind...

The small, beige piece of paper was neatly tucked into a small, white envelope with my initials on them- A. A.V.

Now that I thought about it, I never asked Thanatos how he'd found out about my middle name, Alexandria? Strange... Then again- he is rather good at getting whatever he wants. I'm sure he didn't struggle too much.

I turned the small paper around to reveal his beautiful handwriting- it was like calligraphy and done in the blackest of ink. I've seen him write many times by now, and every time it was fairly demoralizing. My handwriting was pitiful compared to his; it left me slightly embarrassed.

He didn't even have to put any effort into it; it took him five seconds to write a paragraph that looked like it belonged on an ancient scroll you'd only manage to find in a museum. He's annoyingly perfect, isn't he?

I reread his words- 'Angel, I realise it's only been about ten days, but I felt like writing this down for you, so I could at least get it out of my head before it drives me mad. Well, more mad. I love you.'
