Dil Ki Aawaaz

(The sound of the heart)

"Jab se tumhe chaha hai, kisi aur ko dekhne ka man nahi karta."

"From the time I set eyes on you, I do not even desire to look at anyone else."

She waited for Waqaas to enter the kitchen first,  then after a few seconds she entered in time to hear his annoyingly loud and chirpy voice booming in the kitchen.

"Assalamualaykum Khala jaan, meri sab se pyaari khala, kya haal hain?"
( Beloved aunty, oh my most beloved aunty, how are you?)

He asked chirpily, as he lowered his head so that she could lovingly pat his head.

Naailah rolled her eyes, she never understood why he always liked to praise and butter her mother.
She knew for a fact that he didn't like her mother as much as he pretended to like her. Waqaas's mother was so chilled and laid back compared to her stern and strict mother, there was no way he could be fond of her.

She could see right through him, she knew him well enough to know he was showering all these praises just to flatter her mother, yet she didn't know why he did it.

When she asked him the reason, he would always just laugh and say it was his nature to be a charmer.

She smiled at her nephew.

" Wa alaykumusalam.Allah ka shukr hain beta , thik hu."
(All praise is due to Allah, I am well.)

He whistled, playfully eyeing her from head to toe.

"Oh my, you're looking even more beautiful today Khala, is it not Naailah's wedding by any chance?"

Naailah scoffed, while she sliced the cucumber for the salad.

Sakina laughed and slapped his head playfully.

"Be sharam larka, me tumhari khala hu, tumhari umar ki larki nahi, jis se tum aise baat karsakte ho!"
(Shameless boy, I'm your aunt, not some girl your age that you can speak to me like that!)

He grinned, all his teeth on display.

"It's no Colgate advert."

Naailah mumbled incoherently, but he heard it.

His grin grew even wider.

"So am I allowed to speak to a girl my age that way then?"

He quirked a brow.

She shook her head, laughing.

"Get lost you shameless boy! You only joke all the time."

He chuckled.

He always brought out the best side of his aunty and he knew Naailah was curious, she wanted to know why he did it and most importantly how he did it, but that was a secret she would know only when the time was right.
