Eyes , the mirror of the heart.

Eyes, The Mirror Of The Heart

Khuda ne aankh kitni ajib banaya hain,

Jab ye kulti hain,
Dunya ise rulaa deti hain,

Aur jab band hoti hain,
To ye dunya ko rulaa deti hain."

How strange Allah SWT has made the eye.
When it opens,
The world makes it cry,
And when it closes,
It makes the same world cry.

Keen little eyes blinked at the two strangers as they walked into the orphanage, each one craning their necks to catch a glimpse of the people who they hoped had come to the orphanage to give them hope of a brighter future.

As the two strangers walked into the main office, passing them polite smiles, each one secretly hoped to be the chosen one. They were not entirely sure if these people came to simply donate to the orphanage and visit them, or if they were intending to adopt a child as their own, but deep down in their little innocent and hopeful hearts, they ardently wished that it was for the latter reason.

Safaa sat in the  far corner of the room, her back against the cold wall and her legs crossed on the wooden floor. She sat in deep thought, a distant look in her light brown eyes, her dark brown hair fell on her forehead in soft curls, her tan skin glowed in the sun light that fell upon her face, her little pink lips were set in a frown, observing all the hopeful faces of the children.

Her little mind couldn't fathom why they always became so excited by the idea of being  adopted by strangers.
How could they blindly trust those strange people that came to take them away, how were they so sure that they would look after them and take care of them? What if the strangers were as bad as their real parents? Or what if they were even worse than their real parents? What would they do if the strangers were nasty monsters!

She shook her head in disapproval, a shiver of fear ran down her tiny spine. She would never allow any stranger to take her home, she was perfectly fine in this orphanage. Even though she felt abit lonely sometimes, it wasn't all that bad.

She was able to eat three meals a day, her mother  didn't have money to buy three meals a day. Sometimes they would only have enough money to buy her one meal in a day and her mummy wouldn't eat. She would  tell her  that she already ate, but Safaa knew her mummy lied to her to make her feel better.

They were allowed to bath every second day and they could wash their faces and hands with clean water every day. When she used to live on the streets, they always had to find a tap somewhere outside.

Sometimes her mummy used to take her to the public bathrooms in the parks and she used to hide in the toilet cubicle and wash  herself as well as her with an old cloth and clean water, but the public baths were far from where they slept.

She also had four sets of clothes now, two sets for summer and two sets for winter. When she used to live on the streets, she only had one set. When her mummy wanted to wash it, her mummy would take her to the public bathrooms again, then she would take off her long cardigan that she always used to wear and she would wrap it around her, while she washed her clothes and left it outside in the  sun to dry. They would stay in the bathroom till the clothes were dry and her mummy would tell  her stories during  that time.

She also had a soft matress here, she could sleep comfortably. She felt like a princess, sleeping on a soft bed. Even though some of the bigger children slept on beds, she didn't complain.
The  soft matress was so much more comfortable than the hard floor, the cardbaord box and the thin duvet that  they used  to sleep on.
