Aankho Ka Ghusa

(Anger Of The Eyes)

Her heart thrummed violently, her hands shook in fear and twin streams of tears ran down her face. She shook her head as the staff of the orphanage  explained to her that she was being taken to a better place, not a place where she would be harmed.

She refused to believe what they had told her. They all lied to her, these people would not take care of her like her mother did. No one could love her more than her Mama! Why would strangers want to adopt her and treat her like their own child?

They were lying, they just wanted to take her and hurt her like all the other people on the street that her Mama always protected her from.

Raees and Farnaaz watched Safaa break down.

Raees felt bad, maybe they should just leave her at the orphanage. It wasn't the best place to be, but it was still better than the streets. If she was comfortable here, perhaps they shouldn't take her away from her comfort zone.

Farnaaz on the other hand was not going to give up. If they had a chance to give this little girl a better life, education and unconditional love, why leave her here?

Farnaaz sat on her knees and gently took Safaa's small hands in her own.

Safaa looked up at her, her eyes full of tears. Fear was evident in her innocent eyes.

"Listen to me sweety, I promise you that we won't hurt you. You see my dear, Raees and I have wanted a baby for a very long time, but Allaah Subhanahu wa Ta'aala has not yet given us one. We would like to take you home and look after you like our very own child."

Safaa still didn't look convinced.

Farnaaz continued.

"Okay let's do this. Stay with us for one week atleast, if you like living with us, you can stay forever and if you don't then we will bring you back here.
We will even bring you to visit your friends every day for this week. "

This seemed to convince her a little bit.

Safaa peered at her innocently.

"Pinky promise?"

Farnaaz smiled and interlinked her pinky with Safaa's little finger.

"Pinky promise!"

Safaa smiled, wiping her tears.

"Okay, I will go for one week, but if I don't like it I'm coming back here."
She stated firmly.

Farnaaz nodded and gave her a quick hug.

Safaa brought her little bag that didn't consist of much and nervously jumped into the car,  she waved at all the kids who looked at her with a sad expression, wishing that it was one of them who could have been in her place.
