Dil Ke Khayalaat.

(Thoughts Of The Heart)

"Har din, mere dil me pehli cheez aur aakhri cheez tum hi ho."

"Every day, you are the first and last thing on my mind."

Sunlight streamed through the kitchen window. Dust motes sparkled in the air.
The aroma of freshly fried rotis, freshly cooked chowle and chai with a tinge of daar chini and a dash of ellachi, along with a few blobs of honey, brewing on the stove filled the house, early in the morning.

Razina fluttered around the house, making sure the chai didn't spill, ensuring that Waqaas packed all that he required and she packing his last minute things as well.

Waqaas's flight to Pakistan was in the next few hours and the lazy lump was still asleep.

After she switched the stove off , strained out the tea and poured it into the cups, she set the table for breakfast then went to wake the men of the house up. They usually didn't sleep till late, but today being a Sunday everyone slept a little longer than usual.

When she knocked on the door and heard no reply, she walked in, only to see Waqaas's bed empty, the covers thrown on the floor. The bathroom door was shut and she could hear the sound of the shower running.

She shook her head at the messy room and quickly straightend the sheets and neatened the bed, then picked up his dirty clothes and took it to the laundry room.

She separated the dark colours from the light ones, then dunked the dark colours into the washing machine and switched it on.

When she returned to his room, he had already changed and was zipping up his hand luggage bag, his back facing her.

"Assalamualaykum beta."

She smiled at him.

He turned around, returned her greeting and gave her a small smile.

His smile didn't reach his eyes and it looked forced.

Instantly she knew something was wrong, unlike Daaniyaal , Waqaas was always genuinely smiling, he was hardly ever seen upset and no matter how many times she had asked him what the matter was, he brushed it off.

She stepped closer to him, leaned on her toes, then pecked his forehead.

She was quite a tall woman, but her sons were still taller than her, with their muscular bodies and big builts that they had inherited from their father, they towered over her.

She looked up at him and held his face affectionately.

"Kya huwa beta, Ammi se kya chupa rahe ho?"
(What happened son, what are you hiding from your mother?)

He plastered a wide smile on his face.

"Kuch bhi to nahi, bas kaam ke parishani hain."
(Absolutely nothing, it's just work stress)
