"Daddy, did you remember what today is?" Lily asked as her father buttoned up her coat ready to take her to school.
"Yes, yes of course" Noah stated as he fiddled with the buttons.
"Daddy.." Lily said knowing her father was not telling the truth. He was always like this, forgetful. He really was not put out to play both the mother and father figures.
"I swear I do..it is your.." Noah went to say as he got up from bending on his knee and sneakily peeked over to the cork board on the wall and noticed the calendar date marked with a little pink fluffy heart.
"Ah" Noah said as he remembered exactly what today was.
"Your ballet recital, I could never forget poppet" Noah exclaimed just as Lily hopped down from the step with a big grin on her face.
"I knew you wouldn't forget!" she exclaimed before she ran forward and hugged around Noah's upper legs.
Noah smiled as he rubbed around her back, feeling relief that he managed to cover up the fact he had forgotten something so important yet again.
Noah was a very busy man, he was at his job quite a lot and rarely had any spare time to be with Lily anymore. The older she was getting, the less time he had for her.
Mostly Adalines mother looked after Lily, she always went to Lily's plays and recitals and any school meetings. It was like all of a sudden Lily could relief on her grandmother more than her own father now.
"Goodbye Lily, have a good day at school love" Noah said as he kissed Lily on the cheek and she turned before hopping out of the car and swinging her backpack onto her shoulder.
She waved goodbye as Noah drove off to get to work before she hurried off inside with her friends who had waited for her outside the front.
Lily loved her father very much, but he could be quite useless at times. Before maybe he may of been able to handle situations but as Lily got older things started to become more complicated and she was no longer a little infant.
Often Lily would have to do things herself, as her father would be too focused in on his work calls or agendas he would do something wrong.
Noah would be making Lily's lunch and then suddenly his phone would ring and he would spin round and walk off not concentrating and packing her lunch unfinished or not correctly.
And Lily would then come along behind him and notice the crust on her sandwiches not being cut off, or her father packing red grapes instead of green.
Although these were only some of the little things, they still meant a lot to Lily. These things were something personal to her, things which even her own father could not remember to do.
So overall, Noah was handling parenthood well but at times he wasn't the best. Luckily Lilly being nearly 8 now, she was able to maintain things that would not go right for her and Noah would never know he was struggling.
As Lily knew her father had a hard time coping having to be both of the parents, the father figure obviously he was fit out to be. But when it came down to things that mothers would normally be typed to, he struggled a bit.
He also felt a little out of place, seeing all the mothers stood on the playground that first day he took Lily to preschool made him realise just had difficult things would be.
Seeing them all chatting, standing there holding their coffees made him feel sorry for Lily as she strolled past them. Seeing all her friends mothers come along to their plays but instead her father merely would come to them from time to time if he didn't have work issues.
