Adaline stood carefully watching Charlotte as she slowly leant into the chicken coops, gently pushing the chickens aside and collecting the eggs before placing them into a small weaved basket.
"Okay, your turn. Here you go" Charlotte said turning back and handing Adaline a basket and pointing over to a chicken coop opposite.
"Okay.." Adaline said to herself as she slowly made her way over to the coop, slowly, terrified about how this was going to go.
"Okay..here we go" she added before leaning into the chicken coop.
"Oh uh excuse me, Mr Chicken I just need- I just need those eggs there I'm- AHH!" Adaline screamed as the chicken moved, her scream startled all the chickens and they began to flap like crazy flying around, out of the chicken coops and all over the barn.
Adaline continued to panic running around in circles waving her hands in the air. Before she tripped on a pile of hay on the floor and fell backwards, dropping the basket in her hand and cracking all the eggs onto the floor. They splatted down next to her, and she sighed as she sat, covered in hay and egg yolk groaning at the failure. Charlotte laughed before going over and helping her back up, clearly understanding how difficult it would be to actually teach Adaline.
Unaware of who had seen them, Noah had finished the machine he had been working on the past few days and heard the commotion before rushing down towards the barn and staring just outside. Peering inside and noticing Adaline, in a new attire which surprisingly suited her very well. Jumping around and screaming like a maniac as the chickens flapped around panicked.
He laughed to himself as he watched her then fall backwards onto the floor and become covered with egg yolk and bits of hay. She managed to get back up and he gazed over noticing how beautiful she was. She stood there with her hair in a messy updo, stands of hair falling over her face as she tried to brush away at the egg yolk and hay now stuck all over her dungarees.
She looked like a whole new person, he preferred her in the less pristine way she had looked like the last few days and was beginning to enjoy seeing her try to adapt to the farm lifestyle.
"Need any help?" he said chuckling like crazy as he strolled into the barn shocking Adaline who turned and suddenly began to blush knowing what an idiot she looked like once again.
"You do know how to make an impression don't you" he teased as he stared over at Adaline, covered in egg yolk and hay looking like a complete fool.
"Yes, well I didn't think we had an audience" Adaline snapped back as she began to pull bits of hay out of her hair.
Charlotte just stood to the side staring at them both, clearly beginning to imagine a fairytale relationship between them both. She began to slowly get the chickens back into there coops as Noah walked up to Adaline, helping take the hay out of her hair.
"Here, let me" he said grabbing the piece of hay from her hair and looking back down to notice Adaline's big eyes gazing back up at him. They just gazed into one another's for a moment before she looked away, and Noah felt the tension break.
Adaline quickly tucked a strand of hair behind her ear once again, feeling the nervousness take over her. She was still baffled over how much this was like a film, could this get anymore cliche?
"So, what's with the new attire?" Noah questioned standing back to view her body, his eyes gradually scanning down her body making Adaline feel her cheeks begin to burn up.
Why was she blushing? He was just like another idiot at her school, she never blushed or got nervous when they did that? Maybe it was because he was new, or something about him was different to the normal guys she met.
"Charlotte, let me borrow her things-" Adaline went to say looking round to where Charlotte was but noticing she was now gone. Clearly didn't want to interrupt the non existent moment she believed was happening between them both.
"Suits you" Noah said smirking before turning away to walk out of the barn. God she hated what a flirt he was, so cocky yet funny at the same time.
"Hey wait up" Adaline blurted out following after Noah who stopped and turned back surprised by her sudden actions.
"As Charlotte has apparently ditched me now, I was wondering do you want to maybe teach me some things you do around here" Adaline asked hopefully her eyes widened and hands clasped together in her persuading way. She never failed with this, something about the way she stared at people; kind of like puppy dog eyes always managed to work and like clockwork, Noah gave in.
"Yeah alright then, follow me" he replied back as she walked off and Adaline waited a moment trying to figure out if he really did just agree before rushing after him.
"So, do you and your friends like..I don't know..go to streams and jump in the water or run around in fields?" Adaline said making her way over to where Noah was stood.
He burst out laughing leaning down to the ground nearly collapsing with laughter, confusing her.
"You know this isn't like some stereotypical movie" he said still laughing as he leant back up to look at her.
"Well so far it has managed to be" Adaline thought in her head as Noah got back up and they continued to walk.
"So, what do you do around here then?" Adaline snapped back as they struggled through a tall cornfield.
"I don't know..normal things" Noah replied bluntly.
"Wow don't be too precise will you" Adaline said letting out a small laugh.
"Yeah well don't ask stupid questions then" Noah snapped back teasingly. God she hated how good at arguing he was.
"Well I just figured, you'd be able to answer them easier being you know..a farm boy" Adaline snapped back.
"Are you calling me stupid? You know just because I live in the countryside doesn't mean I'm not smart alright" Noah exclaimed.
"That's not what I meant I-" Adaline went to say but Noah cut her off.
"No look, not all of us can be preppy girls like you from the suburbs who probably have everything and think they're perfect. Unlike you, I don't live off of mummy and daddy's bank account" he snapped back silencing Adaline.
At the moment all the things she felt towards him before disappeared, yet again he was right back to being the total idiot she had met the first day she came. He had no idea but what he said hit her hard; the amount of people who used to say that to her was the reason she began to hate her parents for what they did, she hated the way she used to be and that's why she changed. Why she no longer acted like that 'popular kid' and no longer filled the shoes of the cliche mean girl from the films.
Without even replying, Adaline just glared at Noah in disbelief that he could somehow be exactly like all the other guys she knew and stormed off ahead leaving Noah alone.
"Uh Look Adaline Wait! I'm- I'm sorry alright I didn't mean that" he tried to say but Adaline just ignored him and continued walking.
