Lien walked down the halls, smiling lightly and swinging her arms. It was hard to believe that just thirty minutes ago, Alfred had given her a hug in science class! It made her heart beat faster to think that he had been that close - breath fluttering against her ear, sky-blue eyes sparkling... the whole package. Lien clasped her hands to her heart dreamily.

But as she turned the corner to go to math class, her fantasies were all shattered as she saw her own best friend, Mei, laughing brightly as she practically hooked herself to Alfred's arm.

Lien gritted her teeth and looked away immediately, shocked and angry. Betrayed. How could Mei do this? Mei knew Lien loved Alfred. But not even a second passed before Lien knew what she had to do. She could not allow Mei to take Alfred from her. Alfred was hers, and hers alone. Besides, she'd already gotten rid of Lili and Michelle (A/N: Seychelles) just last week. Lien sighed. Alfred really was too popular for his own good. But that was all right. Eventually, it would just be her and Alfred. And then they would both be happy.

Before Lien could leave the hallway to plot Mei's downfall, Alfred spotted her.

"Hey! Lien! Where are you going?"

Lien turned back to Alfred, a grin playing on her face.

"Hey, Alfred." she said shyly as she walked over.

"Lien, what class do you have again?"

"Math. You have art, though... right?" Lien asked innocently, pretending that she didn't know every single thing on Alfred's schedule.

"Yep, math with me! C'mon, Lien! We'll see you later, right, Alfred?" Mei suddenly piped up and began dragging Lien away. Lien scowled darkly. Was Mei trying to pull her away from Alfred? How could she?

"Right. Bye!" Alfred gave Lien one last grin before turning away to talk to Matt.

"Okay, Lien. Listen carefully." Mei whispered once Alfred was out of earshot. "I was talking to Alfred about how you and him could maybe..."

Lien zoned out while Mei chattered along, gripping her book bag tightly and smoldering silently. Mei had to go, best friend or not. Today, even if the trash trucks didn't come until Friday. Lien would have to take the chance that no one would go digging through the dumpsters. And even if they did, she herself would be long gone by then. She was so busy imagining the scene that she almost didn't notice Mei tapping her on the arm.

"Lien? Lien, math class is over there..."

Lien looked up to see that she'd already walked past the math classroom. "Right." she said shortly, before ripping her arm away from Mei and striding into the class.

Alfred

"Hey! Liza!" Alfred called out to the brunette, who was currently arm-wrestling Gilbert on a desk. Liza quickly brought Gilbert's hand down on the desk and turned around triumphantly.

"Hey, Alfred! Guess what? I just beat Gilbert in an arm-wrestle! Again!" Elizabeta grinned proudly. Alfred smiled at the girl he'd had a crush on since he first met her, back in middle school.

"Good job. Gilbert, what have you gotta say for yourself, my man?"

"That girl cheats!" Gilbert whimpered, pressing his wrist to his chest. Elizabeta laughed, a sound like a tinkling wind chime. It filled Alfred's heart with happiness.
