Chapter Three: Mate
Daisy
***

As the day moved forward the house began to fill with people, from caterers, to waitstaff, Alphas, Betas, friends, and family.

I kept myself upstairs. Beside the growing antsy feeling, the buzz of everyone downstairs was filling me and making it worse.

As the time for the formal dinner drew closer and closer I found that I needed to move around despite trying to lock myself in my room.

My sister was right about the air helping a bit, so I decided to make my way to the upstairs library, it was the largest room up here and housed the most windows.

As I made my way into the library I was filled with a relief that it was empty.

I took care in taking a seat as I didn't want to crease the beautiful silk gown my mother had custom made for me.

The chair wasn't the most attractive thing. It was an old fashioned wingback chair in a hideous dark brown velvet-like upholstery. Obvious sign of it's age showed easily on the areas where the material had begun to thin with time.

I sat back getting more comfortable, I looked at the chair opposite me and contemplated about moving as this chair's back was facing the door.

But despite being quite ugly it really had grown quite comfortable.

I smiled a content smile as the air filled the room, it was refreshing as the coolness touched my exposed skin.

Suddenly the door opened behind me and I was all prepared to get up when suddenly a gust of air rushed past me from the open doorway.

And then a voice followed, "Don't get up."

His voice was Masculine, one I wasn't familiar with, It intrigued me to look but suddenly...I could smell him, and it was absolutely the most intoxicating aroma I have ever had the pleasure of smelling. His heady scent filled me and a warmth arose inside of me, and it seemed like I couldn't fill myself with it despite wanting to only smell that smell for the rest of my life.

Without  a doubt I knew this was my mate.

If I had my wolf already I knew she would be stirring to be near him...our mate. My heart raced at my first official encounter with my Mate, I knew this was breaking the rules, Mates are suppose to wait until their both shifted, but I didn't need my wolf to know this was him, the guy I've waited almost my whole life for.

"Don't turn around."

As curiosity filled me, I couldn't help but smile as I tried my hardest to listen to his small command.

"Close your eyes."

His voice was seductive and this game he was playing had me on edge in the best way possible.

I closed my eyes and tried to steady my breathing as my chest rose and fell with excitment, my heart beat accelerated as I heard the sounds of his footsteps coming closer and closer to me. I took a hold of the the chair's arm rests, my nails burying themselves into the worn fabric.

"Don't move."

With my eyes still closed I watched as the light from the open windows shifted as he walked infront of me.

"Keep your eyes closed."

I nodded and fought the urge to just look at him.

A small sound of leather moving hit my ears beore he took my hands into his.

My heart was beating too fast, one touch shouldn't do this much too someone.

"Daisy..."

My name was like music falling from his lips.

I could tell he was squatting down infront of me, no doubt if I opened my eyes right now I'd look right into his own...but I didn't want to shatter the curious illusion he had created.

"Yes?" I sounded, a giggle hanging onto my single word.

He lifted my hands and placed a sweet kiss upon my each one before he placed my hands back on my lap, I heard the sound of leather once more and concluded it must've been his shoes.

I sat there and listened as he took a few steps away from me. "Daisy..." He spoke again, this time I heard him from my right side.

"I reject you."

And just like that my accelerated heart had slowed with a quickness as I thought it would stop all together.

He spoke on further. "Now that I have rejected you, you will no longer smell my scent as much as before, it will dull to you...because you have yet to shift, your wolf will not know me upon sight either, This...this is for the best."

It suddenly became hard to breathe, all sound seemed to vanish around me, and as much as I wanted to scream or cry I found that I genuinely  could do nothing but sit there in a state of utter shock.

I found that through the whole ordeal I had left my eyes closed. I opened my eyes and felt as my tears had begun to fall down my cheeks. I carefully lifted my hands, The same ones he had held and kissed only moments ago and cleared my face before I somehow willed myself out of the chair I had been glued to.

But I was alone...whoever he was, was gone.

"Daisy My sweet girl there you are." My father sounded with a wide smile on full display as he made his way up the stairs to reach me, "Come on my little one, let me escort you to dinner this evening."

I only stood there before he took hold of my hand. "Is everything alright Daisy."

I could only look up at him, He mistook my sadness for fear.

"No need to worry my Darling Daisy, It's only a dinner and a shift and then you shift right back before you get to enjoy your birthday party, come now before we're late then your mother will kill the both of us, it's enough an Alpha didn't show up and your brother invited an Alpha's son to the party." He said as he led us down the stairs.

"Of course he'll have to attend the dinner, and since He's your brothers guest we have to include your brother and his new found mate by extension."

I wanted to run back upstairs and hide from these people.

I didn't want this dinner, or a presenting, and I damn sure didn't want a party.

As broken as I felt I knew I had to hold it together, at least for the dinner and the presentation, after that I could sneak away from the party if need be.
