CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR

•Saturday January 15th•

Back at my house, I saw my mother slaving over a hot stove in the kitchen. I walked over looking confused as to why she was cooking. She pulled out food from the oven and took off her oven mitts to examine what she just cooked.

"Where have you been? I thought you were going to help me with this"

I gave her a confused looked. "Help with what? Campaigning doesn't start until tomorrow"

My mother rolled her eyes at me as she turned off the oven. "You really have the memory of a seed, Madison. Your little boyfriend is joining us for dinner tonight"

My eyes suddenly widened and I ran to go upstairs. "Oh my God! I forgot....I've got to get ready!"

I sprinted to my bedroom and started to make myself look more presentable. After spending the day in Thistle House and walking around Riverdale with Betty, my makeup was near to falling off my face. Without hesitation I took it all off and did all of it over again. My hair was pretty straight still so I just let it be. I threw on a black crop top and put my serpent jacket on over it.

As I was walking down the stairs I was getting a phone call from Jughead. "Hello?" I asked

"I can't write the article about Pop Tate. It would break his and his families heart if we did"

I took a large deep breath in and said, "what are we supposed to do Jughead?"

"I've talked to literally everyone who is connected to Hiram Lodge....I don't know what else to do. Everyone is on lock down when it comes to him. Even Mayor McCoy who isn't even the Mayor anymore! I don't get why she's still protecting him"

Just as I was about to say something someone was at the door. "Jug I gotta go. I'll talk to you in school"

I ran over to open the door and what I saw was a sight for sore eyes. It was Sweet Pea wearing a collared shirt and tie with his serpent jacket over it. I am pretty sure my jaw dropped to the floor for a split second as he started to laugh at my face of disbelief.

I wrapped my arm around Sweet Pea's elbow and I led him towards the kitchen to meet my mother for the first time. She was finishing setting the table and she turned around and saw Sweet Pea and I standing there.

"Mother, this is Sweet Pea" I kindly said

She came over and examined Sweet Pea. It almost looked like as if she was trying to change everything about Sweet Pea in her head. "It's wonderful to meet you, Sweet Pea. Please come have a seat"

Sweet Pea and I sat down next to each other and my mother sat across from us. We talked for awhile together and Sweet Pea kept his answers pretty brief. His so-called history was something he did not enjoy talking about with people. We were sitting around together talking mostly about school and about my mother running for mayor in order to keep the conversation away from Sweet Pea's home life. We also talked about Toni for a little while to and how she and Sweet Pea are practically brother and sister.
