It had been a few months since Rene. The town was still trying to get over the scandal. Everyone felt dumb for falling for a great act. Andy felt the worst & failure of a cop. He was drinking noticeably more which pissed me off. He was a bitter drunk & kept complaining about the case. Like every other night, he came in for a drink & stumbled out.
Sook, Tara & I followed him out to stop him from driving. He drunkenly looked around & started getting angry about his car being moved. He looked pretty dumb when we saw it in the bushes. Tara pointed it out as we all walked to it. When Andy pulled the back door, a ladies foot popped out. I smelled a lot of old blood & didn't sense a pulse. Andy pulled the door open more to reveal a bloody body with the torso covered by a rubbish bag. We all screamed at the sight.
"Andy, what the hell did you do?!" Tara panicked as Sam ran over
"There's someone inside." Sook explained
"Christ, what happened?" Sam concernedly asked
"You step back. I got it." Andy barked
"Andy's got it." Sam tried to reassure us
"I got it, I got it. Don't touch anything." Andy ordered us as he searched more
"We were out trying to find Andy's car." Sook backtracked
"Because someone fucking moved it." Andy angrily added
"Suddenly, there's this person in there." Sook continued
"We need an ambulance. Sam, call the cops." Tara freaked out
"What? I am the cops." Andy pointed out
"Oh, my God. Please tell me it's not Lafayette, please." Tara worried as we comforted her. With a fresh body & him being missing for a long time, we all feared the worst.
"Check for a pulse." I feebly asked
"Forget it. There ain't no pulse." Andy replied
"What? Why?" Sam shockingly asked
"Cause there ain't no heart. Sick fuck." Andy answered as he shone his light over the body.
It was an older black woman who had a screaming expression. We were all terrified but Tara was affected the most from her blood-curdling scream. We tried calming her down again while Andy called for back up. We were questioned again & heard everyone's thoughts. Tara was worried about them finding out her connection to the victim: Ms. Jeanette.
"I don't know about you but I've seen enough dead bodies to last a lifetime." Sam comforted us
"hmm, this is way too normal for me." I whispered which shocked everyone
"Except with this one, I just don't get. With everyone that Rene killed, you could see his rage. This, cutting out that poor womans heart. Someone just wanted to see her suffer." Sookie said in disgust, "Everytime I think I know what someone's thinking, it turns out that I don't know anything."
"Hey I'm good to close up & go home if you are?" Tara shakily asked
"How did you know the woman who got killed?" Sookie asked
"Sookie, I told you don't ever..." Tara croaked before crumbling from our stares, "That was the woman who gave me & my momma the exorcism."
"Oh god, I'm so sorry. I didn't know." I replied as I pulled her into a hug, "But, you've got to come clean to the police. Keeping it a secret will only make it worse."
