"Mom?" I choked.

My heart began to pound, blood rushing to my head. I felt light-headed. She stood in front of me. This person who died and left me all those years ago is standing right there. I felt acid rising in my throat. I couldn't speak or think at all. Anger and sadness rushed into me.

"Please let this be a dream," I whispered, "please..."

Joshua immediately ran to my side and held onto me. He knew of my problem and I wanted to thank him but I was shaking so much.

"Please," I pleaded.

"Maia, it's okay," Joshua consoled. He held me tight, keeping me in the present.

"What's wrong with her?" Someone asked.

Something in me snapped, "you really think that after six years of living on my own, I'd be fine seeing my mother? I've watched her crumple in front of me and yet I stayed strong! I've been stuck in the past because you," I spat, glaring at my mother, "every time I see your face, I fall back into the spiral of the past! I can't deal with this anymore! Just when I left the past and began living in the future, you decided 'hey its been six years since I died, let me go visit my daughter who I felt on Earth!'" My tears began spilling but that didn't stop me, "do you know how long I've grieved? How long I've mourned? Six years! Six long excruciating years." I began trembling, "I don't want to go back to the past anymore. I'm sick of it. I'm sick of living in a world that's long gone."

Joshua held onto me the whole time. The pain still stung in my heart but I finally said everything I've been holding in for the past six years.

"Maia..." my mum started. Her voice still the same. The voice that plagues my existence, "I know exactly how much you've been mourning. I've mourned the loss of my daughter. I lost you to this job, this job-"

"Wait," I interrupted, "Job?"

"Y-yes...I'm the Leader of the Virtues," she replied.

"You're what?" I exclaimed.

"Just give me a few minutes to explain everything to you," she begged, "please."

I eyed her, heart still racing, Joshua still by my side and said, "you have five minutes."

The whole room eased after I said that. This must have been something very important because even Chastity looked worried that I might not listen to my mum. Usually she'd be the one who'd want me to leave.

"Okay, I don't know where to start," she stated.

"Tick tock," I replied.

Sadness washed over her eyes. She isn't my mother, I don't have a mother.

"Everything started when I was a child. I've always been in Heaven, I'm an angel of some sort. Usually people of my calibre don't have many powers. We used to have this...thing, back in the day, where everyone from both Heaven and Hell would meet in Incompurtus for this 'party'? I don't know...I met Lucifer then, he wasn't the Lucifer at that moment but, nonetheless, he was a devil. There was no rule out there that said angels and devils can't be together so we fell in love. It wasn't the kind of love where we knew each others families and only if they agree then we'd be together, it was the kind of love where it was just us two, no one else. We'd been together for many years, he came to heaven and I went to Hell."

"How?" Joshua asked, anger evident in his voice. Thank God he asked, I wanted to but I couldn't bring myself to speak up.

"Just like how the sins came here. Everyone is allowed to go to the other...place, except rulers. Like me now, the leader of the virtues or Lucifer, the Prince of Hell," she replied.

"Three minutes," Joshua informed.

"Right, after we had been together for sometime, we had reached the age of acceptance, or you could say 'twenty'. After that I found out he was the Prince of Hell, while I was the Leader of the Virtues. I couldn't be with him. He may have not been evil but the power of the Malum makes you more and more prone to dark power. I had to run away. He was looking for me, for marriage. I wanted to marry him, really I did but not when he was the Prince of Hell. Either I had to drop my position or he had to and I knew neither one of us was going to do that. I told the Virtues to extract every ounce of power I had in me, leaving me without a single drop of angel blood in me and sent me to Earth. Lucifer searched for years but he couldn't find me, so he eventually gave up. I met your father, Leonardo. I was happy and in love. I married him and I had you. Maia, you were the greatest blessing in my life."

You are the greatest curse in my life, I thought

"Once you got to the age of six, you started to gain the powers of a Golden-Blood. Half human, half angel. The virtues contacted me, saying that Lucifer has sent out devils to find me. He had found out about Leonardo so I told him to leave. He knew about my position and Lucifer. It pained him to leave but he trusted me. I called the virtues to extract all the power from you but that was only temporary. We ran away from the country and moved to New York. When you reached the age of fourteen, your powers doubled and Lucifer found me. He kidnapped me and took me to Hell. I knew I had to escape for my daughter so I stole the Malum, to prevent Lucifer from creating more demons, and escaped from there. Lucifer had put his blood in me so I was binded to Hell, but it reacted with the angel blood in me and the human blood to create this disease. It wasn't cancer. It was something beyond human comprehension. It acted just like cancer only worse. I didn't want to leave you Maia, I really didn't. When I died, I went to heaven, regaining all my powers. I've put up more defenses to keep demons out of heaven and it's been working. The sins came to Earth because Lucifer has reached his optimum power and he threatens war upon us. I need you because you are the only tie between Heaven and Hell."

"Maia, I know you don't trust me and you don't have to. Trust is hard to earn but easy to break and I'm afraid I broke it. If you don't want to be around me then don't but help us for the sake of the Earth. The last time Heaven and Hell went to war, the dinosaurs went extinct," she continued.

Silence settled in the room, waiting for me to reply. Joshua couldn't help me in this situation. I had to speak myself. I cleared my dry throat, wanting to reply.

"How is Maia the tie between Heaven and Hell?" Joshua asked.

"Maia is half angel, half human but according to my observations, she has some demonic blood in her," Chastity explained, "when you went to Hell, Lucifer managed to get some of his blood in you or many some demon got their blood in you. Nothing has happened to you...yet. If my theory is correct, you'd be able to withstand having demon blood in you, which, in turn, would make you the perfect weapon."

Chastity smirked, "Lucifer doesn't know it yet."
