Chapter Thirty-six: The Library.

Once everyone had winded up from the meeting and decided to go back to work, I made my way over to the library to 'understand more about our enemies'. The library was humongous; three floors worth of books. Ancient and modern scriptures lined the walls, bookshelves towering over me. Aisles of bookshelves were all across the room. Tables were placed in the middle to allow people to relax and read.

How on Earth am I going to find anything in here?

"Hello," a male voice spoke from behind me, "need any help?"

I turned around to see a handsome man smiling at me. His golden hair fell perfectly, covering a bit of his eye; I could see them though. Heterochromia: a difference in eye colour. His left eye was an icy blue, like an ocean, swarming and beautiful. His right eye was brown; like melted chocolate, rich and deep. His face was the kind that would make you stop in your tracks and stare. His smile made his eyes crinkle and a small dimple formed on his right cheek.

"I just... just wanted to know if there is anything here about heaven?" I asked.

"Well, you are going to have to be a bit more specific so I can help you," he replied. He rubbed the back of his neck, like a school-boy.

"I wanted to know the similarities between Heaven and Hell," I elaborated.

"Oh, we have a lot of books like that. Anything particular you want to know?" he questioned.

I shook my head and he beckoned to follow. We walked down couple of aisles, till we reached the back of the library. I caught glimpses of books with unusual titles; I assumed they were latin titles. He brought me to a section of the library, informing me that everything I would want to know is here. I thanked him and read a few titles. Heaven and Hell: an encyclopedia. Opposites, Heaven and Hell. I picked up the encyclopedia and walked back to the tables. I looked over at that man again, who was putting books back on the selves.

"I never caught your name," I called out.

"Dominic," he replied.

"I am Maia," I offered.

He smiled and nodded. Dominic went back to shelving books. I sighed and opened the book in front of me, scanning through the table of contents: introduction, creation of Heaven and Hell, Rulers of Heaven, Kings of Hell, Types of Angels, Types of Devils, Offsprings, Seven Heavenly Virtues, Seven Deadly Sins, How are Heaven and Hell the same. The encyclopedia was over three hundred pages. I really wanted to learn more about this place but I didn't want to waste time. I flipped to page 179 to start reading:

How are Heaven and Hell the same?

Many mortals believe that there is no possibility that Heaven and Hell are similar in anyway, however; there are a few similarities between the two polar opposites.

1. Both Heaven and Hell have seven entities that aid in the aim of each side. Heaven has the seven heavenly virtues (refer to pg. 123) Hell has the seven deadly sins (refer to pg. 148).

2. Heaven and Hell both have castles that have their rulers in. Now this maybe something useless to many, but the castles have similar properties, which will be discussed in details on page 238.

3. Both places have an object that contains the powers of the ruler. Hell has the Malum and Heaven has the Probus; however, there has been no signs of the Probus since the first holy war.

I slammed the book shut and groaned in frustration. I ran a hand through my hair and rested it in my hands. I looked over at the time and it had been an hour of me reading.

"Woah, you good?" Dominic asked.

''Yeah I'm fine," I replied, giving him a small smile.

"Here take this," he extended his hand, passing me a mug.

"What is this?" I questioned.

"Hot chocolate," he replied.

I smiled in gratitude and sipped the drink. The flavour bursted in my mouth and my eyes widened as I looked at Dominic. He laughed, dimple becoming prominent. I looked away, trying to calm my pounding heart.

"Do you have anything about the Malum or the Probus?" I asked.

"Oh yeah I do. Hold on I'll get it for you," he answered.

He left and came back within a few minutes. He held three books in his hands and placed them down on the table.

"Here you go. I'll check around for more books if you want," he offered.

"No thank you, Dominic. You've already done a lot," I thanked.

He smiled, "my pleasure."

Dominic allowed me to borrow the encyclopedia and the three books about the chalices. I walked down the halls to get to my room when I met Valerie. I avoided eye contact and tried to hide the books I'm holding.

"Hey, Maia. What are you doing?" She asked, lovingly.

"Just getting some information on our enemies," I replied, shortly. Silence fell between us, "I should probably go."

I took off and left her behind, just like she did to me. I reached my room and slammed the door shut. I wasn't letting anyone in until I had sufficient information on the Malum and the Probus.

I opened the encyclopedia to the chapter titled: The Malum.

The Malum.

The Malum (origin Latin), which literally translates to evil, is a black chalice that has the capability of creating demons and controlling any superior demons (see pg 43). The Malum belongs to Lucifer and has only been used once in the Holy War.

The Malum, alongside its counterpart; the Probus (literal translation is virtuous), is capable of mass destruction and/or the extinction of all life forms on Earth.

I ran a hand over all the words printed on the page. I was going to stay up all night reading about this place. I had to figure something out before Lucifer attacked, if I wanted to save the Sins.
