Coup De Grace

I waltz into the breakfast hall,  a purpose in each step. I scan the somewhat familiar faces until I spot the two I'm looking for.

Maya and Jasper are sitting alone in a small corner of a table, and I walk over to them, a sly smirk plastered onto my face,

"Don't do anything stupid," Maya says quietly as she eyes me in front of her. She gives me a small nod of her head before walking off, and I take the seat in front of Jasper,

"Everyhing's ok.... everything's ok right?" he murmurs to himself, and I look him over. His hair is a disheveled mess, and his big brown eyes are filling with unshed tears. His wrinkled tee shirt that he wore last night and the large bags under his eyes are the only proof I need to know that he hasn't gotten any sleep,

"Nah, everything's basically going to shit. But I feel like doing something stupid usually takes my mind of things," I offer in a nonchalant voice. I see a spark go off in his eyes as he stands up,

"Then it's time to do something stupid," he states, his voice hard. He walks out of the hall, and I begin to follow him when he holds up a hand,

"I need you to stay with the others, make sure no one else leaves the dorms. No one else can be taken," he tells me, and I nod my head,

"Be careful, don't do anything I wouldn't do," I smile, and he looks me up and down, a confused look on his face. He opens his mouth to say something, the closes it before walking away, leaving me alone in the hall.

I walk back to the dorms, hoping that whatever the hell Jasper does accomplishes something.

Inside the dorm, everyone is talking and laughing on their bunks, the music up high so people can dance and have fun. I walk over and switch it off, immediately everyone's attention turns to me,

"No one can leave, Harper and Monty are missing, and we don't need anyone else getting taken either. If you leave, there's a good chance you won't come back, and that's all on you. I no longer care about how stupid you all want to be," I tell everyone, a hushed silence falls over the air,

"What the hell do you mean Monty and Jasper are gone?" someone calls out and I roll my eyes,

"Exactly how it sounds. Harper's been gone for nearly a week, are you telling me none of you have noticed?" I snap, and the lack of response gives me my answer. I scoff, shaking my head, "Stop being so damn delusional, this life was never real. These people are not the good guys, hell, neither are we. But if you want to stay alive, don't leave until Jasper gets back with more news," I order, and everyone slowly nod their heads in agreement, murmurs of 'ok's' and 'ya's' float into the air.

I give them a wave of my hand to motion for them all to continue with whatever the hell they were doing, and I flip back on the music. Everyone seems to troubled to dance anymore.

I sit on the edge of a bed, drinking a glass of water, and when I see movement by the door, I instantly stand up, thinking that someone is leaving. Instead, I see a limping Monty held up by Jasper,

"You're alive," I deadpan when I see the black haired boy, and he gives me a weak smile,

"You always were one to state the obvious," he replies weakly, and I let a small smile cross my face before bringing him into a tiny hug. Jasper lets him go and walks to the middle of the room, everyone crowding around him,

"Listen up, there's gonna be questions, but there's no time. We're getting out of here, so pack your stuff," Jasper declares, and murmurs begin to explode across the room,

"They're letting us go?" Miller asks, hopefulness and glee escaping into his voice,

"Yes. Right now, before they change their minds," Jasper answers, his arms crossed across his chest,
