Nevermore

I don't know how long we ride, all I know that as soon as we heard the horns and saw the red smoke in the sky, we both knew that to everyone else, Ontari had become the new Commander... but we had the flame.

We race back towards Arcadia, my mind full of thoughts about what may happen once we get there, what Pike might do. When we see the dark shape of the camp, I stop my horse, tying it to a nearby tree. Clarke does the same, but without saying another word, she races towards camp, towards the one place that Lincoln would be.

But before we can even make it to the front gates, bright lights fill our vision, and the last thing  I see is a giant Rover before I dive to the side,

"Clarke?" I hear once the thing has stopped, and I instantly stand up at the voice,

"Jasper?"I call out, and his head swivels to face me, "Jasper what's going on?" I ask frantically, already climbing into the front seat,

"No we need to see Lincoln!" Clarke shouts before getting in,

"You don't understand! Lincoln is dead and we will be too if you don't get in!" Jasper shouts anxiously. Clarke still hesitates, and it isn't until bullets start flying towards her that she moves into the Rover,

"What do you mean Lincoln's dead? That can't be!" Clarke shouts over the roar of gunfire,

"What suddenly you don't understand what death means?" Jasper replies sarcastically as he tries to start the rover up. The engine sputters, but doesn't start as Jasper frantically retries,

"I need him to to take me to Luna! He's the only one who knows where-"

"Shut up! I don't care, ok?" Jasper interrupts, his face red as he continues to try to start the Rover, to no avail. Tension covers the rover like a blanket as more gunfire erupts around us. I look behind us, only to find an unconscious Raven lying on her back.

Clarke quickly checks her pulse, "You really are the angel of death aren't you," I can see the remark stung Clarke as she rears back, her face tight with pain.

I jump when the back door opens, revealing a man who's currently reaching for the unconscious Raven. Clarke instantly move back to where they are, just as Jasper manages to successfully start up the rover. I clench the 'oh shit' handle tight as Jasper kicks the thing into gear, sending us flying forward as Clarke kicks the man back, sending him flying into the dirt.

Jasper reaches high speeds as we race through the woods, neither Clarke or me knowing where we're going, "Jasper, please, talk to me," Clarke pleads, and I almost snort at her words,

"I saved your life," he mumbles, "That's more than you deserve. The only reason I stopped was because of Kat," he adds, and I can't help but feel slightly appreciative over his words,

"It seems like I'm the favorite lately," I smirk, recalling the exact same words coming out of Roan's mouth when he escorted us out of the city,

"My mother let them shoot at me," Clarke says, the idea of her mother allowing them to potentially kill her hurting her more than Jasper's words,

"I can see the appeal. Stop talking, the others are in a cave, look for it. Sinclair said it would be around here somewhere," Jasper explains, and that marks the end of the conversation.

A few minutes later, I spot a flickering flame, and I tell Jasper to stop the Rover as I look closer, "Found it," I say dryly as I exit the rover, slamming the door shut behind me. I begin to walk towards the cave when I see him. And he looks just as shocked to see me.

I look him over, taking in the bruises and cuts along his face as he steps towards me, regret and pain flashing in his eyes. I can feel my own pain rising to the surface, and I push it down as I take a step back, my eyes going to his sister standing behind him.
