[Y/N] POV

The red string... ever heard of it?

If not, I'll tell you

Well, it's a string... and it's red...

And it's tied around your pinky

"According to this myth, the gods tie an invisible red cord around the ankles of those that are destined to meet one another in a certain situation or help each other in a certain way. Often, in Japanese and Korean culture, it is thought to be tied around your pinky. The two people connected by the red thread are destined lovers, regardless of place, time, or circumstances. This magical cord may stretch or tangle, but never break. Only you can see your and your soulmate's red string"

We were all just kindergarten children when it happened...

Everyone was looking in the room in hope to find their soulmate or to see, at least, their string

I raised my left hand, looking at my pinky, in hope that I will see my string and maybe see my soulmate and make the conections

But...

"Miss" I called, raising my hand. "I-I don't have the red string"

The teacher gasped as the other children turned almost instantly to look at me in shock or rather disbelief

"D-don't worry, [Y/N]-chan!" The teacher exclaimed, aproaching me. "The red string isn't meant to show now, it will show a little later..."

What a lie...

I was teased or rather pitied for this little, insignificant thing and as years continued to pass, it didn't bother me anymore

Sure, as a little kid it did hurt... being 'stringless' brought a lot of teasing and pain in my tiny little heart, too small to hold all of those emotions, so the blame had to shift onto someone else for a while... I blamed my own parents for being stringless... I thought it was their fault... Until I grew up and realized that they had nothing to do with this... Until I grew up and started to don't care about that string at all

Besides...

Who would care about a stupid string when ghouls are a threat to the humankind?

Author POV
Reader is 19 years old now

You were sitting in your favourite coffee shop called :re, doing some sketches with your pencil on the back of your notebook as you were waiting for your blond best friend, Akiko and your coffee to arrive

"Sorry that it took so long" A familiar female's voice said as she took a seat in front of you

"About time" you sighed frustrated as you turned the page

"Sorry, sorry, I was stuck in the traffic, [Y/N]-sama!" Akiko apologized again as she closed her purple orbs and clasped her hands

"Yeah, yeah, let's start with math first" you said, waving her off

"I hate math" Akiko whined, earning a small chuckle from you

"I do, too, but oh, well" you shrugged it off
