*A81C7’s POV*
I walk closer to the Alphas’ home, I do my best to stay out of sight.
I do not need to be the reason that we get caught.
I look across the pack grounds, my eyes searching. I slowly look over, scanning for Jett.
It will not matter if I make it there, if Jett does not.
I find him, closer than I am, cautiously approaching the home from a different direction.
That is smart; with us separated to avoid attention, Jett can approach the home much more easily.
I have gone a slightly longer route, since I have been a member for longer and am known I am both less likely to be stopped and more likely to be remembered. I do not know if that is a good or bad thing, but I do know that I am currently safe because of it.
When we reach the large home, Jett comes over to me. We do not speak, for fear of being heard. Instead, we silently move behind a protruding wall of the building.
Jett stands protectively in front of my body as I nod to him, signaling that I am ready. He smiles back, before turning away to watch for any form of incoming danger.
I close my eyes, knowing that reaching the correct mind from so far away will be difficult. I need to concentrate.
I reach out, feeling the blurs of sleeping minds nearby, which must belong to night patrol workers. I move past them, finding a few children's minds where the whole view seems to be more vibrant, full of life. They are so happy.
I move further, searching for the correct mind. I reach around rooms of the house, jumping from one mind to the next.
I find many servants, cleaners, and cooks but none of these minds are what I am looking for.
Finally, after searching through dozens of minds. I find them.
Alpha Kim and James are in the same room, presumably spending time together or working. They most likely are enjoying leisure time, as they do not do much of their own work unless there is a large event.
I first reach into Kim’s mind, exploring it, anf finding out what her mind is like. Once I have a firm hold, I make my way over to James, careful not to lose Kim’s mind.
I search through James’ mind, finding it much more difficult to attach to. His thoughts are more random, and he does not have very many fundamental or foundational thoughts. I do, however, find something to latch on to in his pride and love for power.
Making sure I am firmly connected to both minds, I project a singular thought.
I am a harmless human, I am a harmless human, I am a harmless human
Over and over I send the thought, making sure it will stay. I accompany the thought with two specific feelings. One of empathy towards others, and one of general contentedness in life.
These emotional foundations should make sure that both Alpha have a happy life, though they will no longer be werewolves.
They will be unable to harm others on such a large scale, and will be forced to live average lives without ruining others.
Once I am sure the thought is stable, I force it into the minds’, and pull away as quickly as possible. I do not enjoy being in other people’s minds.
I open my eyes, slightly disoriented, before seeing Jett.
I begin to move away as quickly as possible, while remaining unseen. Jett follows, keeping hidden from view as much as possible.
A few seconds later, two distinct screams are heard from the home of the Alphas.
I cannot help but cringe, knowing that I caused those screams, that pain. I do wish that there was anything I could do to prevent their pain, but I do not know of anything that I can do.
People begin running into the home, worried about their alphas.
Jett, seeing the troubled look on my face, says, “You know they deserved it, they hurt all those people. They were power hungry, and now they won’t hurt anyone else. They were bad people,” in a quiet voice.
I nod, but I cannot accept what he is saying.
“They are just people, like you or I. Sure, they may have been misguided. Yes, they also enjoyed inflicting pain, but that does not make them bad. They just needed some help. They hurt people, but we, I, hurt them. Maybe they were not all good, but they were not all bad either. If someone were to look at my actions without context, they could think I was bad. Maybe they did deserve to be human, to be unable to hurt others. I just wish that it did not have to be so painful,” I respond.
“Ash, you really are way too forgiving,” Jett replies, a small smile on his face.
“I just know that, when someone is put in a bad place, they can do bad things. I can see people's minds, and most people have some type of reasoning. Kim never wanted to feel powerless again. James did not want to have someone use him. Nathan wanted a mate, and a perfect life. My mother wanted to be loved, and turned bitter when she was not,” I partially explain, excluding my father from any explanation.
I never could find a good thought in my father's mind. He just wanted to win, to be the best. He really did not care for others. He was angry at everyone. He likes inflicting pain, too. I despise thinking of him, and push thoughts of him to the back of my mind.
Jett seems to ponder over my explanations, before nodding as we continue making our way over to our meeting spot at a quickened pace. We do not want to be late.
As we approach, I do not see anyone, but I do not worry.
Everything seems to have gone to plan.
When we reach the west side of the woods, near the large tree, I reach out to feel the others minds just to make sure we are alone.
Everyone's here. They come out from ducked positions, with Mila, Archer, Zac, and Mor coming from one side while Axel, Amanda, and Ryker approach from the other.
We all share share a victorious smile.
“We did it,” Mila states, surprised.
“I told you we would, my girlie always gets her way,” Mor says, and I slightly blush.
Did she really just call me hers? Did I imagine it?
I force the blush off of my face before anyone can see, and remain a blank face. Only a small smile betrays me, but even Amanda has a quirk at the corner of her lip. It is impossible not to be slightly happy right now.
“We still need to go. We do not need anyone to know how we did this, or who,” Axel says.
“Yeah,” Mila agrees, and all turn to face me.
I send a questioning look towards them, wondering why everyone seems to be looking at me.
“Where’re we going?” Archer asks me.
I do not have a destination in mind, but I do know that we should leave. Does it even matter where we go? No, not really. We could go anywhere.
“Away, anywhere we want. We are free, we do not have to hide from a pack or an alpha, and we can live how we want. Just away from here, from everything,” I say, before looking at Amanda. I continue with, “but first, we need to pick someone up,” a sly tone in my voice.
“Who?” Mor asks.
“Do we know them?” Ryker questions.
“Are they nice?” Jett inquires.
“Do we have to,” Zac adds.
“Unimportant. We are going away, and they are coming. If you do not agree, you do not have to come with us,” I offer.
No one seems to object, and we all begin the journey to pick up our last friend; if you can call him that.
