Toni's POV
My boyfriend stood me up again.
Correction
My ex boyfriend has stood me up for the last time. It sucks because it's my birthday and now I'm alone at the amusement park.
At least I can go in the solo line and get on faster
I sigh and go to the solo line of my "warm up" ride.
"Do you come here alone often?" Someone asks from behind me
I turn around and the most beautiful girl I've ever seen is standing right in front of me.
"Oh uh," I stutter before getting my confidence back "only when my idiot ex boyfriend stands me up, you?"
"Oh same- but my girlfriend,"
Yes- she's into girls.
"We can fit both of you in this row," the worker says
I nod and let her walk through first.
The ride is slow, not too slow that we can talk, but not fast enough that either of us scream.
"So do you like bigger rides? Or do you stick with the ones like this?"
"This is my first time at an amusement park," she says "so I don't know,"
"Well Princess, why don't we stick together and I can show you to the good rides?" I ask
"Someone is very cocky," she laughs "but I don't even know your name, where you live, or where you go to school,"
"Easy: Toni Topaz, Riverdale New York, I'm going to Riverdale High in the fall it used to go to a school called Southside,"
"You're a serpent?"
"You're from Riverdale?"
"Cheryl Blossom,"
"Aka Cheryl Bombshell?" I laugh "Of course,"
"Does the offer still stand Toni?" She asks
"Of course bombshell- let's go,"
I offer her my hand and she gladly accepts
"This is an in the dark coaster and things jump out at you," I say as we get to the fairly short line
"Is this just a way for you to get me to jump into your arms?"
I laugh and shake my head
"It's a warmup to the best roller coaster in the park," I smirk
We get on the ride and she does jump in my arms.
"To scary for THE Cheryl Bombshell?"
She giggles and lightly pushes my shoulder
"Sorry I'm not a big bad gang member,"
"How'd you know?"
"Southside High is ran by the serpents,"
"It used to be- before I left," I say "now it's run by the poisons, my gang made up of all the girls from the serpents who hated jones,"
"Awe your girlie gang," she teases "the pretty poisons?"
"We'd only be the pretty poisons if you joined us," I wink as we get to the next line
"Youre a flirt,"
"I only speak the truth," I say non chalantly
We talk about our lives for a bit before we get on the ride.
"Don't be afraid to hold my hand, it's a scary one," I flirt
"Maybe I'll hold it for fun," she winks
This ride takes forever to start up.
"So do you still have a girlfriend?" I ask
"You're asking me this now? Before we go in the scariest ride in the park?"
"Well if you say yes, and I scream fuck at the top of my lungs I can blame it on the coaster,"
"I do not," she says "I broke up with her a week ago and was supposed to come here with a friend but she's Veronica's friend now- not mine,"
"Awe that sucks Cheryl- I'm sorry,"
"I met you didn't I? It doesn't suck that bad,"
I laugh
"What about your ex boyfriend?"
"It was never gunna work out. Leading two opposing gangs? I didn't even like him, we only dated for like two weeks," I sigh "I was his rebound,"
"What's his name?"
"Jughead Jones,"
She laughs and shakes her head
"He's an asshole,"
"Agreed,"
We start going up the hill and Cheryl looks terrified.
I tentatively put my hand on her thigh.
"Is my hand okay?"
"Ya it's helping, Thank you,"
I give her a small smile and run up and down her leg.
I've done this ride a million times.
It ends.
"Can we never do that again?"
"Anything for you," I wink
She rolls her eyes
"Relentless Topaz,"
"Always,"
We walk around and do rides all day until almost closing when we are standing at the bridge waiting for fireworks. My phone rings and it's Sweetpea.
"I have to take this," I sigh
"Oh for sure," she says
"Hey Pea,"
"Hey sorry we weren't around, we heard you broke up with J,"
"He's an asshole man,"
"Agreed, anyways. You wanna celebrate your bday? Beer on me!"
I look at Cheryl- I kinda want to see where this night takes me.
"Uh actually can I take a rain check? I actually am with someone right now,"
"Ooooo, Okay," he says "I guess Fangs and I understand," he jokes
"We'll celebrate another night,"
"Deal, talk to you tomorrow,"
"Yep,"
I hang up and look at Cheryl.
"Celebrate What?"
"Well I turned 17 today,"
"Happy birthday," she says "May I give you a present?"
She grabs both my hands as I nod intrigues
She kisses me and fireworks go off.
Not just figurative ones either
We pull apart and I look into her eyes
Maybe she's the one.
