Tonis POV
"... this just in, NASA just announced an undetected, world-ending asteroid is an hour away from destroying the Earth, it's time everyone- this is it,"
All of this is going on and I can only think about one thing.
I'm sitting on my bike, no family left.
Just told the worlds going to end before I graduate high school.
And I'm never going to be with her
And that's all I can think about.
She knows I like her, and I think she likes me too.
I pull into the parking lot of pops and just sit there
Fuck
An hour left of my life
Whats there to do?
It starts raining but I don't care. I just sit there as I hear people wailing and running all around me.
I look up and see my red headed crush standing in the dry part of the overhang of Pops.
Now or never I guess- really at this point.
"Tones?" She asks
I put my hands on her jaw and kiss her
She puts her hands on my arms and leans into the kiss.
"I'm guessing you heard.." she says
"The world is ending?" I say not taking my hands away
She nods with tears in her eyes
"My world, all I want, is right here Cher. It might only be an hour, but I want you and I should've said it earlier," I say putting our foreheads together "you're my happy ending C,"
"I love you Toni Topaz,"
"I love you too Cheryl Blossom,"
"Wanna come over?" She asks "just to stay with me,"
I nod and we drive to her house with her car.
"C, before.. we do anything else- there's one thing I've always wanted,"
"Hm?" She asks
I start playing a song and offer my hand
"Care to dance?"
She smiles and nods
I play "I don't wanna miss a thing" and put my hands on her hips
She has her arms around my shoulder and is pulling me close
We've known for a while we were endgame
That didn't mean it had to be today
I should've told her sooner
I would've got to do this a little more
I kiss the side of her head as the song ends and she starts crying.
"Babygirl what's the matter?" I ask knowing obviously
"I'm scared Toni," she whispers "I'm not ready,"
"Oh Cher," I say hugging her closer "I'm not either, no one is, okay, I know that's not comforting. But I don't know what else to say, and I'm sorry,"
"Just stand here with me, I don't wanna be alone,"
"Of course Cheryl,"
We stand there, almost suspended in time for a while when her phone rings.
"It's Veronica,"
She answers and sighs
"I'm not alone V, I'm with Toni,"
She listens for a second and sighs
"What about your family?"
I'm so sorry, V- ya I'll talk to her and maybe we'll come,"
She hangs up and shakes her head
"What's wrong? Is she okay?"
"Her parents never came home- they were in New York and she think they might've gotten caught in the riots," she sighs "anyways, she's wondering if you and I wanted to go over so we could all be together,"
"If you want to," I say
"I think I do, plus I've always wanted to tell people I'm gay- and maybe it's the end of the world but I can now,"
"Which I forgot to ask. Do you want to be my girlfriend?"
"Yes Toni,"
I laugh and she kisses me
We get in her car and she starts driving
"You don't have any family you wanna be with?"
"I don't have a family C," I sigh playing with her fingers "I was abandoned at a kindergarten on the south side and never had a home after that,"
"Oh, I'm.. sorry,"
"It's okay," I smile "I have you right?"
She giggles and shakes her head.
"You're a flirt,"
She pulls into Veronicas driveway and Betty, Archie, Jughead, and Reggie are already here.
"I don't know if you wanted it to be just the two of us.." she starts
"No no, C- Bettys your cousin and I know Ronnies your best friend. We should be around the people we love right now, I'm totally fine with this,"
"Thank you,"
We go up and knock on the door.
"Hey guys," Veronica says opening it
She's been crying
"Hey Veronica," C says hugging her
"Come inside,"
We go inside and everyone's just hanging out
"Hey Toni," jughead says hugging me
"Hey man, how's your dad?"
"He would've come back from Cali, but.. he wouldn't make it in time,"
"I'm so sorry,"
"I'm alright, how about you? Have you heard anything for Ty?"
"Nothing, he's probably dead, it's been... 5 years now,"
Ty was my brother for a long time.
We weren't actually related, but we grew up together. One day he just never came home, never called or texted
"You make your move with Cheryl?" Archie laughs nodding over to the girls
"Ya I did," I smile "were dating, even if it's only for the next fifteen minutes,"
"Good for you T,"
We talk for a couple more minutes before I go and hug Cheryl from behind.
"Hi there," she laughs
"Hey baby,"
"How are you?"
"I'm alright,"
"Mhm?"
"Ya I'm okay,"
"Good, so am I,"
"Toni, I never knew you were into girls,"
"I'm more into guys actually, but I was always drawn to C,"
I kiss her and she smiles
"3 minutes," she says
"Let's go get comfortable Cher,"
She nods and we go to the couch
She cuddles into me and we watch the news with everyone.
We say our goodbyes and I kiss C.
"I love you C, okay? You're not alone,"
"I know Toni, neither are you,"
We watch focus on each other until the news comes on with a special announcement
"THIS JUST IN! THE ASTEROID MISSED EARTH DOOMSDAY IS NOT TODAY!"
I look at C and she smiles
I get to spend more that an hour
Maybe I'll get to spend every minute until the end of time.
