Shelby's P.O.V.
I was pulled away from Nick, but realized he pulled away frirst. I reached for his hand again but he pulled away from me.
I frowned. "Nick? Try what?"
He wouldn't meet my eyes, so I grabbed his chin and said slowly, "Nick... What were you going to try?"
He met my eyes and whispered so softly I nearly missed what he said, but these words I would never miss, "The Soul Swear."
The soul swear is a switch of souls. The person who calls it enters another person's body while that person is supposed to go to the caller's body.
But usually the caller's body is too weak to stay alive, so the second person dies as the caller stays in their body. Then the body forms and molts into the soul's actual looks.
I never believed either person stayed alive.
This spell was created by the greats so that they can keep track of the Order. But they don't use anyone, they use sacrifices. We didn't have one.
I let go of him all together and leaned against the wall, "Youll die." I whispered, then yelled, "YOULL DIE, NICK! no one has ever survived it."
I collapsed on my knees and Nick sat infront of me, pulling me into a hug and murmuring, "Except the person who calls it."
I looked up at him, "Who?"
"Who what?" but he knew what I meant.
"Who are you calling with?" I asked.
He wouldn't answer but I sat up and out of his warm embrace, "Weve already made plans, so you can't change anything. He offered it."
I shook him, "Who, Nick?!" but his eyes just brimmed white.
He stood straight and wiped the white from his eyes, "Your father. And you can't change anything, Shelby. We've made up our minds. I want to help you with your war. And he-" he stopped and looked away.
"What?" I pressed.
"He wants to be with your mother." he said slowly, as if choosing his words.
That took it. I collapsed back and pulled my knees to my chin like I did when my mother died.
He sighed, "Shelby, don't- don't do that. Please. You know how I hated when you cried."
I whimpered at the thought of losing my father after losing my mother. I loved my father, but I loved Nick too.
I shook everything away and stood infront of Nick. "what do we do?" I was surprised by how calm I sounded.
Nick was too apparently because he raised an eyebrow. But then I noticed he was fading.
"Youre becoming concious. I will see you tonight." and then he was gone.
I groaned and walked to my body. As I stared at my eyes fluttering open and shut, we locked eyes for a moment and I blurted out, "Felicia?!"
She smiled and closed her eyes again. My ghost (what else am I?) collapsed on the floor, but I never hit it. Instead I was standing on tiled floor with Felicia.
She was wearing a white dress made of silk with slits on the sides to her thighs. I was wearing a black version of the same thing.
We stood barefoot on the floor until an old ballroom song played. I gave her my black rose as she gave me her white one.
"Roses? Where'd they come from?" I wondered.
"Doesnt matter. Here you can make anything happen. Let us dance." Felicia said.
