"The cunning of the fox is as murderous as the violence of the wolf."

        — Thomas Paine

In Italian folklore, il Portatore di Vita and il Portatore di Morte were mentioned often: the Bringer of Life and the Bringer of Death. These gods were depicted as a white wolf and a black wolf. The gods were constantly at war as each sought a way to destroy the other. Then one day, il Portatore di Vita had an idea. He sculpted a fountain deep in the heart of Rome made out of the purest white marble. He sang into the heads of those whom he deemed most fit, and led each person to his fountain. The Bringer of Life called out to the humble and noble, the knights and the warriors who fought with the purest of hearts. Seeing this, the Bringer of Death began his own project: he created a small black puddle of water in the shadow of a mountain to where he called his followers. The Bringer of Death sought the beings with a much darker style of life, the theives, murderers, and those who had the darkest of hearts. The gods called out to those they wished to recruit and gave them a simple choice: a life of service or death. The gods built their armies this way, and they created the first werewolves. To each werewolf, they also assigned and created a being called a Keeper. These Keepers were made to protect their wolf with their lives

They used their new followers to fight harder battles with each other, and the wars became much bloodier. Eventually, il Portatore di Vita and il Portatore di Morte became tired with their constant battle, so they each chose a mighty werewolf to pass their strength on to, thus creating the White Wolf and the Black Wolf. The White and the Black fought until death, when a new White and Black would be chosen. The story is the same for all of history.

Each wolf is told their history when they are old enough to understand it, but what happens when their story is hidden from them?
