At exactly seven-thirty the next night, three soft knocks came from your bedroom window. At the time, your face was buried deep into your current work. Your head snapped up and you looked out to see Mikey standing on your fire escape.
You waved shyly and opened the window. Mikey stepped in, smiling. "I'll order the pizza now!" you pulled out your phone and placed the order online. Mikey looked at you confused. "Aren't you going to call the pizza place?" he asked, cocking his head to the side.
"Oh, no, I ordered online. I don't like talking to people," you admitted, avoiding eye contact. "But you're talking to me" you nodded, clarifying that while, yes, you were talking to him, it was hard for you to talk to people you didn't know.
Mikey nodded in somewhat understanding before you offered him a seat at your desk. He sat back on the chair. You chatted for a while before the doorbell rang. You ran to get the door, leaving Mikey in your room.
You returned no more than two minutes later, carrying a hot pizza in your hands. You handed Mikey the box before sitting down in your computer chair. "Dig in!" you gestured. By the way, he started inhaling the pizza, you figured you didn't have to tell him twice.
"You can go ahead and start your sciencey stuff," he said through a mouthful of cheese and dough. You giggled, then pulled a clipboard out. You stuck a pencil behind your ear and wrapped a tape measure around your neck.
You began to write in basic facts you already knew about Mikey onto a sheet of paper. "Mind if I ask a few questions?"
"You already did."
You laughed. "I'll take that as a yes. Height?"
"5 foot five"
"Weight?"
"One hundred and sixty-five pounds of pure muscle!" Mikey flexed an arm. He was in fact muscular, but you could tell that he was mostly muscle just by looking at him. "Last question. Age?"
"Oh! I'm fifteen! Fifteen and roughly three months!" you nodded and wrote the information down on your sheet. "How old are you?" Mikey questioned, smiling at you. "Oh, I'm fifteen too"
You continued your examination in relative silence, only asking a few questions when you weren't sure of something. You scribbled down notes as you went. You hastily scratched down the last few words on your report.
Mikey suddenly, as if something knocked into place in his mind, asked: "wait! You're not going to show it to anyone are you?!" his tone of voice and sudden volume took you by surprise and you squealed.
"What? No! I don't share my research with anyone!" Mikey sighed in relief, the smile returning to its place. "Good. but just in case, I gotta make you promise that you'll never tell anyone about me okay?"
You nodded. "Put your hand over your heart and repeat after me" you did as told, following the instructions that Mikey was giving you. "I promise to never tell a living soul about my new Best Friend Michelangelo" you repeated the words.
"Good! And now we're best friends!" he exclaimed, smiling. "I guess we are" you agreed, smiling kindly. You glanced down at your watch. "Oh wow. I didn't mean to keep you for so long Mikey!" you apologized. You felt kind of embarrassed. "No big deal! I'm out all night either way!"
Mikey paused for a brief moment. "But, my bros are probably wondering where i ran off too. I should probably go." you nodded, but immediately looked up at Mikey, confused. "Wait, you have brothers?"
Mikey nodded. "Yep, three older brothers! Maybe ill bring them over to visit sometime, but until then I gotta run! See you tomorrow night?" you nodded. "Seven-thirty" Mikey nodded as he climbed through your window.
There were three more turtle/human hybrids?!
