Welcome Everyone to Behind The Words

Today we have BookieBat

She is the Author of Lupin's cub and many more amazing books. A big thank you to her for taking the time from her busy schedule

Without further ado...

What inspired you to start writing?

Ummm I don't actually remember lol. I guess I just love stories. My mom and dad say I started speaking full sentences at 1 year old and immediately started making up stories about a horse friend I would go on adventures with called Windo. My dad had a friend from work called windle and I'd misunderstood lol. I guess between that and my grandpa's stories. I never properly met him as he died right after I was born but he was a storyteller and I grew up listening to cassette tapes of him telling stories.

Did you have any writers' block along the way? how did you get past them?

Varied from story to story. Lupin's Cub I pretty much knew where I wanted to end it by chapter 3 so after that, it was mostly how do I get there from here and filler chapters. I did a lot of "hey can I run this last you/ brainstorm with you?" With friends.

Do you see yourself in any characters and why?

I think to get into a characters head very well you have to be able to find yourself in them at least a little bit. I'd say I see me in all of them. Not fully me but buts of me. How I understand the world or how I think I would in their place perhaps. I know one of my first characters on here had a lot of goofy/silliness that she used to brush off the little things that could've upset her. That's very me.

How old are you?

29

How old were you when you started writing?

I'd have to ask my mom. The first I remember was around 6

Can you remember what you felt when you first started writing? what did you feel?

Umm I think probably either hope that my daddy would think it was good or just general excitement for the story

How long does it take you to write a book on average?

I don't have any kind of average on that honestly. Lupin's Cub took me 3 years to finish while Mini Stark was probably a few months. Just depends how long it takes to tell the story I wanna tell I guess.

What's your outside life like?

Simple I suppose lol. I live in a forest, have two dogs, two cats, a hedgehog, a gecko, two kids and my husband. I'm an artist and trying to set up a ceramics studio. I garden. Read/write. It's simple. Peaceful. I like it. *shrug*

Where do you get your ideas from?

If it's a fanfiction then the idea is usually trying to change a death I couldn't handle or thinking what if. I particularly like writing about my favourites having kids. I love to write about kids finding better lives with parents who love them and treat them well. I also have a lot of crazy dreams and some of them feed into storylines well lol

What does your family think about your writing?

Umm, I only share bits with them. There are things in my writing that some members of my family wouldn't approve of so. They have definite ideas on what I should be writing and what the purpose should be and I just enjoy a good story and good characters. My husband is like "Eh whatever makes you happy I have no idea" lol. My bestie and sister in law are subjected to a ton of my "omg I had a new idea what do you think?!" And they seem to enjoy said outbursts lol

What do you think makes a good story?

Characters. Definitely. I could tell you the same storyline you've heard a dozen times but if my characters are relatable, lovable, believable it will be a good story. I mean that's why we can revamp things like Sherlock Holmes over and over again. Because he lends himself to a wonderful character. It's a fabulous story in and of itself but you can only hear a story so many times right?

What's your favourite genre? and why?

I consider my tastes in books, films, and music to be very eclectic. For the most part, I prefer fiction but if I'm into it already I will and do read non-fiction. Like biographies and such. I definitely own more fantasy and mystery than anything else but I've read and enjoyed some sci-fi. And I'm a sucker for historical romance or suspense. Like give me someone in danger and nesting the love of their life while they're at it lol. I guess what I don't like would be easier XD I HATED of mice and men and also the three musketeers

What's the hardest thing to write to you and why?

Hardest emotionally would be really bad abuse, particularly of women and children. Hardest just something I struggle with. I am terrible at slow building a romance. Truly awful! I think it's a lack of experience with that sort of thing. My first thought when I saw my husband was that he was really cute XD I don't slowly do stuff like that I guess. If I like someone they know it about as soon as I suspect it lol. I have no filter and tend to just blurt things out. We also didn't really "date" so to speak. We'd hang out and watch Simpsons together or play Mario XD idk how to date and all that lol. So I feel like my romances move too quickly when I've attempted

I'm not romantic lol

Do you have anything specific you want to say to readers?

Thank you so much for the feedback and reading of my stories, enjoying them. It truly has meant the world to me.

And lastly, Do you have any advice for new writers

Write the story you want to read. If it excites you it's gonna excite someone else.
