Chapter 9

I wake up at 5:30 to my phone ringing. I groan and pick it up. It's Paige.

"Why are you waking me up this early?" I groan.

"Well, we're going for breakfast at iHop. I invited Chase and Luke too, if you want to come."

"I know Chase a little, but I don't know Luke," I say, feeling nervous.

"Well, now's your chance to meet him. Get ready!" She says.

"Fine. I'll be there soon," I say and hang up.

"Where are you going?" Ricky asks as I'm putting my shoes on.

"Meeting some friends for breakfast," I say.

"Have fun," he grins.

"You can get something to eat out of my kitchen if you want. I'll see you at school," I say.

"Hey!" the girls greet me as I get out of my car.

I hug them.

I look over to the boys and I only recognize Chase, of course.

"Hey Chase," I smile, and he pulls me into a hug.

"Josephine, this is Luke," Chase introduces me.

Luke is cute. He has dirty blonde hair with brown eyes, and he's quite tall. I'd say almost 6 foot.

"You can call me Jo," I smile.

We shake hands and head inside. We get a table for 5 and sit down. I take a seat in between Chase and Ali.

"I'm so glad it's Friday," I smile.

"Same here. Chase, and I race on the racetrack the next town over on Fridays. You girls wanna come out and see us?" he asks.

"I'll go. What time?" I smile, looking at Paige and Ali.

"The race starts at 7," Chase says.

"Count me in," Paige winks.

"I'll be there," Ali smiles.

"Sweet. You get to see me whoop ass!" Chase smiles.

"You wish," Luke hits his arm.

"Can I drive a race car?" I ask.

"I could let you drive mine a few laps before the race," Luke smiles.

I brighten up.

"Thanks!" I grin.

We order our food and continue chatting.

Our food comes out quickly and we eat it fast. I start to pull out my money but Luke stops me.

"Don't worry about it. It's on me," he smiles.

Paige gives me wide eyes.

"Are you sure?" I ask.

"Positive," he grins.

"Thanks," I blush a little.

"Come to the bathroom with me," Paige tells us.

We get up and scurry to the bathroom.

"Luke has a crush on you!" Ali smiles.

"Why me?" I ask.

"Cause your hot!" Paige winks.

"Do you like him?" Ali asks.

"He's cute, but I don't really have feelings for him," I say.

I think I'm finally ready to admit it.

"Is there someone else?" Ali asks.

I nod.

"Who?" Ali asks.

Paige looks at me as if to say she already knows.

I take a deep breath.

"It's Ricky."
