It was a simple mistake. One that could be apologised for. One which others would laugh about then brush off, and it would be forgotten the next moment.

The mistake was just that simple.

But it scared the living daylights out of me.

The moment I realised I had commited this mistake, I fell into the tight clutches of panic.

My heart felt like it would jump out of my chest at any moment.

Even after I corrected it, I couldn't free myself from the clutches of this monster.

Terrified, I plugged my ears, hoping the soft melody streaming from the earpieces could soothe my erratically beating heart and allow me to sleep in peace.
