"I thought we had something on, a blossoming friendship..." I paused, turning round to look at the man in the shadows, "I guess it was just a one-sided thought of mine."

"We did have a connection Mr Lector." He hissed, "And I hated that."

"So why have you come to take my life?"

"For my nanny."

"Oh, I've read of such stories before. Poor sweet nanny brutally murdered by me, and here you are, seeking revenge."

"You just made my life story sound super cliche. That's rude." He scoffed, hurtling towards me with his knife in hand.

I dodged.

"It has been a long time since I've gotten such an intense exercise, Peterson."

He laughed, plunging his knife into a space where I stood just a moment ago.

I grabbed an arm of his, twisting it till it cracked. A hiss of pain escaped his lips. He glared at me, eyes glinting with malice.

He threw a kick in my gut and I staggered back, coughing. In the next instant he was in front of me, narrowly missing my abdomen with the thrust of his knife.

I aimed a right hook at his eye. Then I jumped at him, kneeing him in his gut. "F***," he cursed, turning to elbow me with his functioning arm.

I grabbed the candelabrum off my table, swinging it to hit him squarely in the face. As he stumbled in shock, I plunged a steak knife into his gut.

He sputtered, blood dribbling from his chin. Groaning, he slumped to the floor. The knife clattered from his hands. I squatted down next to him, fiddling with the knife on the floor. "We could have had such a wonderful friendship. I had so much  I wanted to teach you." I ran my fingers through his hair. "A pity you did not appreciate me as I thought you'd did."

"H-how'd you f-ind ou- about my plans..." His voice was barely a whisper, forced out admist the pain.

"An instinct. Although it wasn't confirmed till the very last moment."

He scoffed, triggering a series of wrecking coughs.

"It was foolish of me." I continued, "Desperately believing in you."

He smiled, "Ma-ybe I shodn't have been so im-atien- I-f I waited l-onger, you w-ould haf been my prey..."

"Maybe I would have."

"I-t was fun kn-owing you Mr Lector."

I offered him a smile. With a chop to the back of his head, he fell face down to the floor, motionless.
