Diverting her attention to Jimin she remained unfazed from what was happening. She knew what he was going to do and she knew she couldn't change it. Crying wouldn't solve it, she had already used up all the water that left within her well. She just had to face head on to everything, even if that's what she'd been saying for the past weeks.
But as one usually says, 'easier said than done'.
She mentally already prepared herself for what was going to happen to Jungkook, even though his punishment would only be announced on the fifteenth.
Jimin looked as if this is exactly what he was expecting. But she wasn't going to say anything. She was tired, tired of exactly everything. Physically and mentally she was drained.
"Jimin... Why didn't you tell me?"
"I didn't know. I doubted him but I-" She immediately cut him off. "I'm not referring to Jungkook, Jimin. I'm talking about you" She spoke with such tiredness, but she was sick of all these secrecies that she might as well hear everything out.
"What are y-" He tried remaining calm about it. He acted as if he didn't have the slightest clue of what she meant by him.
"Please." she closed her eyes taking a breather. "Don't act naive about it..." she uttered with such a faded tone. She was so tired.
Actually, she wanted to hear it directly from him. She wasn't going to blame him or get angry. She wanted to hear the utter truth at this point.
The words that Jungkook had written began to pop up in her mind, while she looked at a nervous Jimin. Brushing his fingers through his hair was always one of his habits every time he was hiding something.
And just one more thing, because I feel like you need to know even though it should be coming directly from him. Jimin isn't your cousin and that police officer we met the other time is his older brother. I don't know in detail but he's related to your parent's death somehow...
I know, it's none of my business, but I still did a background check on him and found out about it not along ago.
I didn't have any second intentions by telling you this, I mean it from the bottom of my heart.
Goodbye,
Jeon Jungkook
Jimin took a step forward, bringing himself to Min-Hi's height. She was sitting on the floor, instead of the couch and just resting her back on it. "Min-hi-ah" He softly called her name while touching her hand briefly.
Barely did she feel his touch, she unintentionally brushed his hand away. Hurt covered his face and her eyes widened. She didn't mean it.
"Sorry" He muttered under his breath, but she didn't say sorry back for brushing him away. Something within her didn't want her to say. She wanted to unlearn that word. The word that she uttered too many times, apologizing for nothing and yet for everything.
Her lips trembled to talk, while landing her eyes on his brown orbs. That cute cousin that had hands smaller than hers and that joked and teased her every day of her life. But those beautiful eyes seemed too genuine and kind to have meant harm in a lie.
"Jimin"
He stiffened at the sound of his name, while continuing to look at her.
"Don't you have something to tell me? I think now would be the right time to be honest with me. I promise I won't hate you. You know I'm always on your side" She locked her attention on him. He lowered his eyes to her knees, curling his lips. He felt it in his bones that she knew about something.
Letting out a light sigh, she muttered one simple name "Seung Gi" and his body froze on the spot. She knows.... Guilt covered him, to the point he didn't know what to say. He felt useless.
One word. All it took was one word for him to lose every little strength that existed within his body, and stumble backwards on to the ground.
"So, it's true...." She mumbled with so much sorrow. She brought her knees up, landing her elbow on her knee as support and digging her face on to her palm, ruffling the front part of her hair.
"It was him... wasn't it?" He uttered.
"Does it matter?" Her voice muffled. It was barely audible, but he didn't really respond.
'Please tell me the truth Jimin. Don't lie to me, don't find excuses and divert, i beg of you. Please don't lie to me! Not you...'
She mentally begged him.
"Your parents... they..." he tried saying something but without looking at her. He didn't have the courage to look at her in the eyes and say it.
She lifted her chin up away from her palm and looked at him, waiting to hear the rest even though every limb in her body ached from the thought. She needed to hear it even if it hurt.
"It was his fault." He brushed his palm on his forehead, not diverting his attention from the floor. Grabbing his front hairs in anger and sadness just from the thought.
"At the time, it was so late and he argued with our parents. He was taking his police exam at the time and drank a lot." He took a breather.
Her orbs widened in shock, but she remained silent.
"He drank so much and yet grabbed the car saying he just wanted to leave the house. Not far from our place he crashed against a car. He got out of the car to check and I ran towards him but froze when I saw him getting back into the car and speeding off. After I called the ambulance, I got a text from him, telling me not to say anything because his life would be over. That's when I saw you standing from the pavement dropping your backpack on the ground and running towards the scene begging for someone to help." He tried telling her but because of nervousness he picked up the pace, speaking even faster.
"I saw him" She sniffed, brushing her hair backwards. "So, you lied that you were my cousin out of guilt?"
He bit his lip, not knowing what to say or do at all. He felt like he was at a dead end.
"Yes or no?" she tried talking calmly even though she felt like she was nearly dead at this point from the inside.
"It was your brothers' idea" He mumbled, and she just let out a snicker not believing anything anymore. It just felt unbelievable. She grabbed the hand of the couch, removing herself from the ground and moving to the couch. I feel like I'm living a lie.
"I'm too scared to ask how or why..." She shook her head in disbelief, growing paler by the second.
"He knew I felt guilty because of what my brother did and because he had friend that helped him cover up the incident with money and he asked me to stay by your side as your cousin, since you didn't have friends and you were alone. He could hardly give you any attention because he had to take the role of a parent" He tried explaining.
"So, he pitied me..." she covered her face with her palms.
"But me being your cousin began to irritate me. The title weighed me down every time I looked at you and reminded myself of how much I loved you as a woman a not as a family member" He explained.
But Min-hi just cracked a smile from tiredness. "I told you it was good time to tell me the truth. Not crack jokes" She got up from the couch feeling stuffy and light headed.
"But I'm not-" She walked away, speaking over him. "I need some time alone, Jim-" She tried finishing but before she could do so, everything went blank.
