"Ow." Was what alerted you to your boys' return. You sighed from your spot in the kitchen as you heard dull thumps letting you know one of them - probably Matt - had practically rolled through the living room window and onto the wooden floor.

You had told them both multiple times that you would happily open the door for them when they knocked but no - apparently risking being caught outside someone's door at 4am in red or black leather wasn't the ideal situation. The window was more efficient... ish.

Walking from the kitchen with their premade nightcaps - a black coffee for Frank (decaf because sleep needed to be achieved somehow), and a lukewarm tea with honey for Matt (because senses being so overdriven sometimes really sucked when it came to tastes) - you settled into the couch and waited patiently for them both to join you.

They settled in either side after changing into sleepwear. Matt's hair was a little ruffled by the mask and you chuckled a little before handing them both their mugs and fixing it into something semi-neat again. Then, your arm went around Matt's shoulders as Franks arms wound around you, the three of you in a sort of cuddle train with Frank's side against one arm of the couch and the other two of you leaning on him.

"Difficult night?" You asked them, the pointer finger of the hand that wasn't around Matt tracing meaningless patterns on Frank's thigh as you lay your head on his shoulder.

"One way of putting it." Matt agreed mildly, sipping from his mug, both hands around it, taking in the warmth.

"Don't play it down, Red - you're black and blue." Frank seemed more irritated that, for whatever reason, he hadn't been able to do more to help.

"Nothing different about that." Matt defended lightly. He wasn't airy in how he spoke, but it was clear that he was saying what he was in an effort to help Frank not feel bad. It was an 'I'm not even that badly hurt so it doesn't matter' technique - one he used too often for you to be comfortable with.

"Fuckin martyr." You grumbled affectionately, pressing a kiss to the top of his head.

"Someone needs to take on the role." Matt argued, voice quiet but out of habit rather than any negative emotion. This was a conversation the three of you had regularly - how often Matt got into situations even Frank couldn't help him out of.

"Someone needs to take a holiday." You told him, causing him to roll his eyes.

"I'll take a holiday when criminals do." You held your laughter in for around five seconds before it came forth anyway.

"You're a fucking drama queen." You said as it puttered out into giggles, his slightly offended look making you cut it off altogether. "No, no; it's great - makes me feel like I'm in a movie or something."

"Glad I can be of entertainment." Matt scoffed, his tone a joking one, letting you know he wasn't all that mad about it.

"What you can do is be more damn careful." Frank told him, posture still relaxed under you but his tone holding the terseness of someone who was actually worried. If it was audible to you, it was definitely audible to Matt. And that fact was proven when Matt turned his head towards where he suspected Frank was and grinned cheekily.

"Yes boss." He would have saluted if there wasn't a hot cup of honey-water in his hands. Frank rolled his eyes but there was an amused smile on his face, however small.

"Whatever, Murdock. You're just lucky I'm there to save your ass every time." He answered gruffly.

"I know, my hero." Matt snared sarcastically, one eyebrow raised. "Whatever would I do without you?"

"Probably walk into a lot more stuff." You pointed out.

"Fuck off." His head still turned till he could press a kiss to your shoulder though, so you didn't take the comment too seriously.

"Okay. If the 'lets bully Matthew till he promises to behave and then still doesn't behave later on despite his promises' chat is over, do you want to watch a movie and wait for the sun to rise?" You asked them both in a tone that told them vigilante talk was over with now. They were home and that was all that mattered.

"Sure," Frank nodded as you clicked the audio description option. "Truce?" He directed towards Matt. The shorter one nodded.

"Yeah," He agreed. "For now."
